Man Utd

In 74 their demise was due to an ageing side (rather like City today) and the end of the ?holy trinity?, now it just seems to be down to having a load of obscure crap players. I never liked the club or Ferguson but you had to admire the fabulous sides he built and the truly great players in those sides. You look at the stellar names on those team sheets and contrast it with the obscure nonentities today and the reasons for the decline are obvious. They are simply not players you associate with Man Utd. Liverpool went through a similar period for many years.
The problem is that there are probably not that many truly great players in the world at present and to get a couple of them into one team, let alone half a dozen, is virtually impossible.

The premier league has totally lost sight of what football is. Man Utd are just a symptom of that.
A soulless money pit that doesn?t have the fans best interest at heart.
Theres something to be said about supporting lower league clubs who have a bit of warmth, heart and soul. Priceless

There are 2 clubs in the PL that still have that imo Brentford and, as I hate them for what they said about us way back when and it hurts to say it, Brighton.

Yes I get that.
Just strikes me of the premier league poisoned chalice. The class A drug that is the premier league, smaller / yoyo clubs soon come away thinking heroin isnt that great for you is it.
For example the sheff urinal fans I know don't want any sort of return and are begging to stay in the championship.

I'm loving it, and long may it continue.
As I always say, everything is cyclical; football is no different. Even the Scabs are having their 'moment' again. They are even going to get a four sided ground again....

What's the world coming to? Approaching 3pm on a Satday. Perfect weather for footie, and no soddin matches. I blame the Premier League. All I've got is Sudoku.

A lot of the old Liverpool sides of the 60s through to the 80s were sides built on team players and not individuals, although they became individually famous while lifting trophy after trophy.
A football team is very machine like, and you wouldn't put two mismatched gears into a gearbox or all hell breaks loose.
As been said earlier, Manchester United have spent top money on players who don't fit. It's not about getting the best player in a certain position, but more about the best player who will gel with other players while playing his own part.

spot on, i watch the games on tv cos i like watching football matches but most of the time could not care less about who wins, the "elite" in particular. on a related subject if anyone hasn't yet seen the fergie documentary on i player, well worth a watch.

In fact add this one:
The Association of Former Manchester United Players (AFMUP) – with around 300 members – has received £40,000 annually from the club to help support players from previous eras before the wealth of the Premier League.
United donated £40,000 each year so that the trust could support players from previous eras before the wealth of the Premier League.
AFMUP trustee and former United youth team and reserve player Jim Elms says the non-profit charity has not received the last two quarterly payments of £10k.
He continued: “We’ve ran it since 1985. Keeping the old players together. Looking after the ones that couldn’t pay for funerals. I just can’t understand them myself. It’s ridiculous.
“We give away around £10-20,000 to charity, mostly children’s charities in the local area.
“We’ve had £20,000 this year but not the rest of it.”
Ratcliffe has rightly been criticised by talkSPORT host Angelina Kelly, who tore into the British billionaire.
Kelly said: “This is an organisation that helps a lot of ex-footballers who weren’t maybe earning the type of money that you see footballers earning now.
“They also help with things like funding funerals for former players whose families maybe can’t afford it.
“They actually have these events a Old Trafford – they rent the space and pay for it, they also donate to children’s charities, so, again, from a PR perspective, it’s disgusting really when you look at it and the way all this has been handled is just horrendous.

If this is what's happening then it's sick.

Rember it well. Seemed like an endless stream of Wolves firm coming up Saltergate; brilliant atmosphere.
That story, if true, is disgusting.
