Well at the half way stage of the season - Thompson and the excellent Markanday apart - most have been disappointing. Gordon has been decent but now injured. Dunkley good although his passing could be better now been injured far longer than he has played. Arujo ok but in and out with injuries. Tanton okay but another injured far more than he has played. Vonte Campbell injured and underwhelming when he has played. Metcalf long term injured but hasn?t really pulled any trees up when played. Madden in and out with injuries, scored a few but ultimately very disappointing. Fleck a total waste.
The club wasn?t to know about these injuries but ultimately decidedly underwhelming signings.

My list for hits / misses on signings this season would be:

Hits:
Dilan Markanday - Quality player that?s made a marked improvement to what was already a good attack. Would be a shame to lose him in Jan if he does get recalled.

Lewis Gordon - Best left back we?ve had in years and I?m absolutely gutted he?s picked up a long term injury recently. Over the last few years that left side was always our weakest in a defensive sense, but since Gordon has come in I can?t remember many goals at all coming down his side.

Harvey Araujo - Good player with loads of potential. Still makes the odd mistake, but that?s to be expected and why he?s here on loan and not in Fulham?s team. Think he?s got a big future, and his versatility will be good for us all season.

Max Thompson - Strong shot stopper but limited in other areas of his game. Decent solid league 2 keeper in my books so I don?t have too many complaints with him

Kane Drummond - Despite him not exactly pulling up any trees I thought it would have been been harsh to put him in the ?miss? list as at the end of the day he?s come from the 7th tier of English football and it?s going to take time to adjust. He?s not EFL level at the moment, but he gives 100% every time he?s on the pitch & still young so will hopefully improve.

Misses:
Paddy Madden - Been injured for about 75% of his time here so far, and when he?s played he?s been bang average / poor. Likely to be a high earner, and actually doesnt really have a position in the team that fully suits him. One of our poorest signings for a while actually. Hope he comes back & proves us wrong.

John Fleck - Same as above but rather than being injured for 75% of the time, more like 99% of the time. At least with Fleck he only signed a 1 year deal.

Chey Dunkley - Unfortunately at the moment I would say his signing has been a miss following his mystery neck issue keeping him out of over half our league games so far this season, and probably many more to come as he is apparently still a way off returning. Another big earner too.

Tim Akinola - Obvious reasons

Daley-Campbell - Poor player IMO. He never impressed me on trial, and I think he?s a much poorer player than Jeff King overall who he ended up replacing. Also add into the mix that he?s another of the crocked lot that?s barely been fit.

Tanton - Great when fit, but unfortunately rarely is and his hamstrings seem to be made of cheese strings.

Metcalfe - Another who can?t stay fit and tbh I wasn?t that impressed with him when he was playing either

Overall 5/12 hits would suggest it was a below average transfer window as it stands. Fingers crossed some of those ?misses? can get themselves back fit & contributing positively to the cause other wise we may need to cut a few losses/loans short to get some new bodies in asap

That was only my judgement of new signings don?t forget. We have some excellent players that were already in the building prior to this summer who have stepped up to the level and done well.

I still think we have a very good team / squad for league 2 level.

Correct the lads who have come up with us from National League have really stepped up and proved they can compete with anyone, it's the new signings who disappoint. Just imagine if they were all spot on we would easily be in the automatic spot.

Forgot about Drummond. Can?t fault his effort and he is quicker than Grigg but being years younger should be. Of course he lacks Grigg?s experience and positional awareness.
Forgot about Akinola too unsurprisingly. I rated him and thought he could do a job for us but it?s all been very mysterious. And like everyone else he?s been injured.

You deemed 7 out of 12 players misses which is implies criticism of the management. Seems harsh on the management when most of the ones you deemed misses because they were out through injury.

Now some may use the argument that he has signed aging players but that one doesn't work the likes of Tanton and Metcalf.

Well you can?t judge a signing a ?hit? if they?re never fit can you?
Whether it?s unfortunate or not that they?re injured, it is what it is.

I?m not saying they?re poor players because I dont think they are, infact I think some are very good players in their own right eg. Dunkley, Fleck, Madden etc? but my judgement is on their impact for us, and they just haven?t played/contributed enough to be seen as successful signings so far IMO. But as I said, I am hopeful they will turn it around.

Interesting to a point but it's got a bit of a 'days when the weather forecast was wrong which meant that I got wet' feel about it.

aka, players who got injured after we got them, so we shouldn't have got them in the first place.

Fleck was a punt. Akinola to an extent too (although he was a known). The rest have all looked decent IMHO and looked like good signings.

Your post reads to me like you've had the car of your dreams for 6 months after spending weeks and months researching it, test driving it, speaking to other owners and boring your mates silly by telling them how brilliant it is. Unfortunately last week, you had a bad accident in it (not your fault) and you now consider the car of your dreams to be a bag of rubbish.

It wasn?t a dig at your post I was just staring even though it?s far from gone to plan this season re injuries were still very much involved in the chase for the play-offs and even a cpl of the auto places.

Add Drummond to the miss list.
Hopefully Oldham come back in for him come January and we can utilise the wage/squad position strengthening the forward position

That is a superb analogy. Tip of the hat to you.
