Given the divisive nature of this section of the forum and endless complaints, insults, infighting etc I think it's time to consider closing it town altogether and keep the board as for football discussion only. I've get up a poll to obtain views about this, check out the poll section to register your vote.

Stand by for a mushroom cloud if the result's 48/52%...

Joking aside though, how about contributors to this section doing so only under their real name? Alongside a permanent ban if it were proven they'd used a pseudonym?

Reckon such accountability would cut out much of the truly toxic stuff...

Just out of interest, how long will the poll stay open for. Will there be a cut off date?

I actually thought there?d been a break out of common sense and debate from all parties in the last week. Definitely open for me, especially as I contributed to keep the entire board open.

I appreciate Moderating could be a pain to say the least!!

I agree it would but it's a big change though and the football debate rarely gets out of hand

It'd be a shame to lose it because there are some decent threads on this section like the music, TV, eating out type ones...maybe we just ban political chat instead of binning it fully.

It's easy to avoid if people want to stick to football. Keep it.

I am with keeping it open. Simple rules - if you say something that you wouldn't say to someone's face, or is illegal then a ban. Permanent.

Who decides what someone else would or wouldn't say to someone's face?

I pretty much opted out of this part of the forum a few years ago. I look at the odd thread, but don?t engage any more. If you don?t like it, don?t read it.
If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything.

That is the definition of complicated

Frearsghost's latest propaganda-driven offering this morning nearly moved the dial and made me vote remove, but I've voted for it to remain (lol). I'm not bothered about the political threads, if they were removed I'd probably get a lot more done! but as Jon says, ones like the eating out thread (again, lol) are worth keeping.

Having thought a bit more about it I leaning this way. I have had some nice meals out thanks to the eating out thread.

Just ban political chat and permanently ban anyone who takes no notice.

It's this simple - don't label folk racist, homophobic, transphobic, blah blah blah, without actually evidence; merely BELIEVING and stating (mainly in an attempt to shut down debate) someone is XYZ, is not substantive....then, you avoid expanding and escalating the conversation into territory some folk don't like.

There's nowt wrong with sensible debate. As Tim has already said, if you just want football chat, stay on the football side of the forum.

If people don't want to use then don't. Leave it open for those who want to. I would be surprised if many feel offence to what is said.

As someone who doesn?t post very often on this section, particularly the politics based threads, I?d pretty happy with them disappearing and leaving the local interest, music and other helpful threads open as a benefit to all. Saying that with how politics is going at the moment I may contribute more to those topics if they still remain available.

we could ask them to say it to their face in that pub car park that Goku likes, but with their arms tied behind their back and their legs tied together. that might make them think...
