Ahah, look back Bluekunt initially called me a w ⚓️ for suggesting that 500 was a bit low but I did say well done to the ones that went

He/she started the profanities

Incidentally Mansfield had over 1500 at Charlton, good following that

Very decent but the two aren't really comparable. Mansfield won't have played at Charlton in the league since people wore flares (outside Mansfield). A trip to London is far more appealing than one to the frozen extremities of England and in the SE you naturally have a large number of displaced locals for whom the game is easy to get to. And they're still giddy at being as high as they are.

A day out in London just before Christmas or a day out in Carlisle just before Christmas, 🤔 Yes I can see how both are equally appealing. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Seems one is three times more appealing than the other, though. I know we're supposed to look down on our neighbours over the M1, but I find it hard to begrudge them a bit of success, especially as they're managed by the son of the Great Brian. Every dog has its day, and we'll be back to beating them soon enough.

All very valid points especially the final point. What I would say about our away support (and this is by no means criticism of the folk who travel away on a regular basis) whilst we have seen an increase in home attendances this hasn't translated to our away support for whatever reason. Yes for the local / bigger games we will always get a good following but it does drop off steeply for the longer treks. That said I have been surprised at size of some of their followings.

'New' or returning home fans aren't likely to become away travellers quickly if at all. Our away support is nothing special numbers-wise, better than some and worse than some other clubs of a similar size.

I disagree. Although it has not grown at the same rate as home attendances, our away followings are far greater than many a past season - I remember the days when 200 of us heading up to Carlisle was the norm, never mind 500 just before Christmas. Cracking away following, that!

In fact, if we look at percentage growth, I would hazard a guess the away % growth is the same or similar to home. Someone please dig through the files as I am intrigued now..

Without having the definitive evidence base to back this up I can only have an educated guess That away followings have increased, especially since Paul Cook came back.

The fact you can't get an away ticket for some games is testament to that.

Per this site, we have the highest average away following to date- although the figure is skewed by the 3000 we took to Donnie.
Very impressive, whatever.

Exactly, on the whole impressive, we?ve never took that many to Vale and the following at Bradford will be a record

Haven?t looked for a while. Now I remember why. Some frankly embarrassing comments from the ?my dad is bigger than your dad? ; ?say it to my face? and misspellings.

Spireite Debate. Clue is in the title.

Exactly, threatened with violence by the likes of Spireite Ranger for simply posting opinions on away attendances is a pretty poor show, obviously he?s a bit of a hard nut and it makes me feel intimidated and fearful for my safety about going to games

It was a great attendance given it was played 10 days before Christmas and was 170 miles away, and costs over ?50 just for a match ticket and travel. Also a few who were going didn?t go because of illness.

Winter sickness bug, flu, and Covid19 hasn't gone away so plenty of germs to dodge. No doubt there will be a world shortage of bleach come the end of January when Trump gets set for four years of stupidity.
