I thought the Taverners played on Dunston Road did the land belong to Mullens.

That's correct. But prior to Pete Mullen he of (**) scrap dealings and Olde House fame, opening Mullen Park they played on the Glassworks ground and having teas in the Racecourse pub. Typically things went wrong and the new ground wasn't opened on time leaving the taveners (the Racecourse bit now dropped) homeless so they went to Bearley Park for a season or two.

Mullen Park was also a "luxurious" ??caravan park. For the grand opening a match was arranged against a Derbyshire X1. As a tester a game was arranged for the previous week against a select X1 but was abandoned without the players taking the field as someone in 'Mullen Towers' had taken bookings from a caravan club who turned up and with their site not ready duly ensconced themselves on the cricket field. Hilarious.

It is also believed that Ernie and John Lumsdan turned out for them occasionally.
Derbyshire is Derbyshire
Yorkshire is Yorkshire

Never the twain shall meet.
