Our driver decided it would be a good idea to drop us off in central London for a couple of hours free time saying we would still have plenty of time to make the kick off in Wimbledon. Then the inevitable happened and we got caught up in traffic on our way to the game and we were passing Stamford Bridge at around 2.50pm when a group of Chelsea skinheads mistaken our coach decked out in blue and white to be a Cardiff City supporters coach who Chelsea were playing that day.
A hail of missiles were thrown, bricks, bottles, concrete, anything they could lay their hands on.
We arrived at Plough Lane 20 minutes or so after kick off just in time to see Gary Simpson score I think it was. If I remember correctly Alan Cork equalised for Wimbledon and it finished 1-1. I'm pretty sure John Turner made his debut in goal for us that day after signing for us from Torquay. I can remember it being pretty chilly on the drive back to town with the broken windows. I think that was a Bagshaws coach that day. Who would believe Bagshaws football coaches had air conditioning way back in 1980 even though it was due to the thoughtfulness of the Chelsea skinheads lol.
I thought we didn?t start using Bagshaws until later in the 80s?
