Looking at the OOC players at the end of the year, who do we offer new deals to? A midweek thread. No falling out now.

Bailey Hobson (ool) > I would assume he will be released
Darren Oldaker > offer another year
Ryan Colclough > up in the air considering the court case > if available offer a new deal
Jamie Grimes > great servant, helped get us up, can see him being released
Tyrone Williams > as above. Cant get a game as things stand. Can see him being released
Mike Jones > can see this being the last year for Mike
Branden Horton > as above, can see him being released.
Ryan Boot (GK) > one year deal or being released
Ollie Banks > will go
Ash Palmer > will go
Michael Jacobs > can see Cook offering him a one year deal
Kane Drummond (ool)
Connor Cook > will be kept
Tim Akinola (+ an option) (ool) > seemingly an experiment that has failed. Will go
Lewis Gordon (+ an option) > will be kept on
Vontae Daley-Campbell (+ an option) > i would release. there are others our there
Liam Jessop > release
Ashton Rinaldo (GK) > release
Ali Mohiuddin > release
John Fleck > as things stand, an experiment that has not worked but long way to go

We need to do what Stockport did and release a lot of the players which aren?t capable of being consistent in this league or potential to play in the league above.

As much as I admire Jones, Grimes et al, you can?t build a future squad with them in it.

We?ve already come across a few decent opposition players this season, so we shouldn?t be afraid to look at this recruitment wise. We are a biggish side in this league and a relative decent destination for a player.

The bigger issue for me is the size of most of the playing squad. When plan A is failing our options are nil.
God I hate this league.

I agree with that. A lot of the players on the sidelines would have zero impact on changing a game at this level.

How can you say that when substitutions have made a significant impact from the bench this season ?

Depends who you are referring to. Imo we should be in far stronger positions before the subs come on.

Much too early to speculate what might happen at the end of the season.

We have a transfer window opening up on 1st January so it might be best to see what changes that brings about.

Whilst moving players on and replacing them with better the over all intention needs to keep a harmonious, competitive, squad within the financial constraints of the budget which has now got to absorb an increase in employers NI costs as well.

I think there will be movement with the aim of addressing our squad weaknesses. We have only 2 CFs and one of those is better employed in a deeper role. CB has been a bit of an issue all season but this has mainly been down to injuries so if Dunkley and Aroujo look like being first choice do we look to strengthen the back up? Horton, if fit, could be the back up at LB or can we find better prepared to sit on the bench? If we sort out the CB position does the ability to move Naylor suffice to strengthen our midfield especially if we have a fully fit Fleck by then? Then we have 3 players out on loan and 3 players not listed in the L2 squad do we allow that to continue?

Looks like we've got to spend the next month without Thompson and Metcalf and probably Fleck. I'm seriously worried that these injuries hole us below the water line. I don't think our goalkeeping department is nearly as strong as last year, and I don't really want to see Banks as our first choice alternative to Metcalf in CM.

Sad to say Fleck should be released, I can't see him getting fit anytime soon.

Cant just release him as he's under contract unless he agrees to walk away as well. Webb's comments post game suggest its frustrating for them and the player as they dont think he is far away just keeps getting niggles.

He'll be back Dave, I'm sure. I'd play Mike Jones because his abilities to cut out danger is second to none. For me, Metclafe isn't a starter, as yet, but he will be, because the lad has talent.

Release the lot except oldaker. Presume cook will stay cos of the stupid training at club under 21 rule or whatever it is. Also offer Gordon a 3 year contract.

It's hard to decide who to keep and who to let go,of the players out of contract next summer. I can't see Araujo or Tanton being with us for another season, and the likes of Berry and Dobra maybe on someone's radar, as could Hobson and Drummond. I think Mike Jones will hang up his boots, although, don't quote me on that. Banks has done enough already to be given another year and I wouldn't hesitate giving Jacobs another contract. I do hope Fleck gets himself right, and he can play a big part in the second half of the season.
Everyone will have different ideas on who to keep and who to let go, but all we can hope is that we build on what we have.

5 loans endings can?t see any coming back as they are a level above us.

potentially 6 released (jones, grimes,Horton, jacobs, boot,VDC) that?s helluva lot of player turnover for a manager who goes on about too much player turnover .

Add that to what did we bring in over the summer 11 again??

I think every clubs in the same position mind but do think it?s why results are all over the place.

i'm not sure we'll see as much movement in January as people expect, could be wrong. My feeling is the club is moving in the right direction but is going to get it right and not do it in a rush, i feel we gave everything to it last season to get out of that league and that included extending contracts of players who are now on the fringes of it but it was done to get the max out of everyone, we come into this season carrying a few and have more loan players than i'd associate with a paul cook squad.
Behind the scenes i am confident that plans are in place for the next phase of the "project" (as football people like to say these days).

I can see us wanting another striker option but asides from that i suspect any incomings will be dictated by outgoings needing to be replaced both loans being recalled if it happens or players being sold.

The narrow question was 'who do we offer new deals to?'

Wor I think is :- Oldaker and Gordon, soon as possible. Jessop and Jacobs, after the transfer deadline. Banks at season end if we don't get promoted. Hobson if he continues to improve. He's generally doing well at Barnet and I think Brennan will give Cooky really honest feedback about his potential.
I'm really narked about the goalie situation. It's not turning out very well.

That gives us a starting set up for next season of :-
xxxx
Sheckleford, Dunkley, xxxx Gordon
Naylor, Oldaker
Mandeville, Dobra, Berry
Grigg.

Subs : Madden, Jacobs, Jessop, Banks, Hobson.

On Colclough........ I'll be absolutely delighted if he's offered a new deal.
Get it on, bang the gong , get it on
