just inexperience really, amazing opportunity from DJ's through ball, tanton never looked certain of what to do, looking for the pass then realised he was in, obviously saw the keeper and hit it straight at him

That could have been the first ever league goal for Tanton. Unfortunately, he is not used to being in such a position and, for me, it looked like he opted for power rather than placement. His inexperience showed up but in fairness to the lad he did show for the pass and made a beeline for goal.

I thought the shot from Banks shortly after the restart was worse in that, despite all his experience, he did not even bring a save from the keeper.

yep agreed on both fronts, like tanton and he has good pace to go with a really good first touch, it simply wasn't our day today, lots to learn from that and i'm sure we will.

One win in 8 at home is awful but 4 wins away is amazing, why can't we do it at home? Our defence gives me kittens most games, why do the opposition manage to break down the middle and score so often. We are in a decent position for a promotion push, but we need more beaf in the team we get bullied off the ball, Naylor got knocked off the ball so easily then the cover behind him just back off.

We were just absolute tripe throughout yesterday, 80% possession but not scoring simply doesn't do it, neither does trying to walk the ball in. Cannot get my head round why we don't gamble, is it nerves whilst playing at home? Can someone please help me understand?

The recurring theme is with the home games, the opposition come with a game plan that has had us sussed. We have struggled to break down these well organised sides. We need a Plan B, C, and D; we certainly have the players and resources well capable of doing that.

Teams come and stop us playing at home Dave , away from home because the focus is more on the home team to attack us usually frees up more space for us to play. We struggle to break down teams at home who get everybody behind the ball and don't help ourselves by starting slowly and conceding. I agree with you about the defence, for me it's not been properly rectified from last season and playing Naylor there certainly isn't the answer. I thought Accrington's goalkeeper was very good yesterday and he's on loan from Everton , I'm still not 100% keen on either Boot or Thompson as our No1 but Crellin looked good yesterday for them .

The performances at home are puzzling, as we should have given a good hiding to half the sides we have faced, yet as managers have noticed if you close us down and stop us playing we pass pass pass to nowhere at the back and then we make a mistake and get punished on the break. I?d happily take half a dozen John Duncan 1-0 Saltergate specials at the moment just to walk away form the place knowing we have points on the board.

People are baying us to shoot when there's a mass of bodies in front of a player or the player is on the wrong foot. We pile so many bodies into attack they obviously don't want to surrender possession.

Yesterday was a disaster, the tempo was all wrong for most of the game, the defence was a disaster and it seemed like purgatory watching it at the time but the highlights showed we had plenty of chances. Best goal keeper we have played against this season didn't help our cause either.

We really were masters of our own downfall in that game! Dominated play for most of the game & Grimes I imagine would openly admit he had a poor game, a poorly timed challenge to concede a free kick leading to the goal, a sloppy pass into Gordon that lost possession, 30
Seconds later it?s 2-0?
Boot had a sloppy game, flapped at a number of crosses & was saved twice on the line by a defender.
It was definitely a poor day at the office for sure, Accrington did a job on us!
Time for the usual negative nancies to have their moment tonight?.leave them to it & don?t rise to the bait.
Enjoy your Saturday evening & chill

You have just explained everything that was wrong with us today but you failed to see a thoroughly deserved complete job done on us by the Accrington lads. I say well done Accy and our scouting team should get some games in and identify some bigger players ready for the transfer window.

Cook mentioned late injuries but our team should be good enough to have got something out of that game, he was right about effort and commitment.

Mark Oldaker closely and you virtually kill our skill in midfield and why Manderville isn?t starting is beyond me. Maybe we have too big a squad where we have assured parent clubs their plays will get plenty of game time.
God I hate this league.

Fleck is now 8 weeks on the pay roll and looks a gamble that sadly has not paid off.

Not if he?s on pay as you play, who knows.

We heard the same old crap when Cook was here last time. Fond memories of some moaning at Jay O'Shea on the left moving crab like across the penalty area trying to get an opening for his right foot before bending one into the top corner were always my favourite. Mind you it isn't just us; I went to seen Pompey in their promotion season under Cook and they were talking crap about the style of play as well, even though they ran out easy winners. Not wonder he dumped them.

I think the big difference this year is the lack of height/build and some teams can just get away with bullying us.
