I do not think that was the planned Plan B but more of a sign of desperation. Our normal Plan B is the same as Plan A but with different personnel.

Not that he was put under any pressure there but Banks looked more comfortable than he was in midfield and Naylor was at CB.

Araujo is a different defender / higher league defender - he can do the basic stuff well but also can play passing football very well.
Today showed Grimes limitations today vs Araujo, showing why Dunkley and Araujo are first choice.
Naylor should never be in defence whilst we have two season CB defenders that can walk - Grimes and Williams. I'd rather have a limited Grimes and Williams than a Naylor and whomever combo.

Next problem is when we have a fully fit CB pairing, where does Naylor play? And if you say midfield, who gets dropped form midfield? And we have Fleck to come in too

not really, we're just giving him time and making sure when he does play he is ready, i think the club is not in a hurry, we have in the past made these kind of signings in desperation, i don't see this one this way, an opportunity came up, we felt it was worth a go and we want John Fleck involved but a fully fit good to go fleck

Then, I recall the ball being played to Oldaker who was facing our right side of the pitch where we had 2 players in space, so he pirouettes through 180 degrees to face the left side where 3 of our players are now marked so he turns another 90, looks around, before playing it back to Grimes who now has the only option left which is to pass to Gordon who is facing his own goal and has nowhere to go but pass it back to Boot, who has Oldaker now demanding the ball 20 yards further back than where he had started. It then took about 5 more passes to cross the halfway line before Colclough won a throw in having failed to beat the first man. We initially had the opportunity to make headway on the right but chose to play keep ball resulting in a nothing move in terms of stretching the opposition.

In fairness to Oldaker it was his pass that released Tanton but we rarely see such a pass.

When I suggest we should move the ball forward with more urgency I am not saying we should lump it forward but that to open the opposition up we could sometimes do it with 2 or 3 passes rather than 9 or 10 of which 7 or 8 go backwards.

for all his improvement this season, this is my gripe with oldaker, he takes too many touches (mostly) to move us, it is where i think banks is better as he can do it in 1, where oldaker needs several touches, as you say the ball to tanton was sublime and shame we didn't profit from it, generally the movement today was below par, again its why i like naylor in midfield because his energy moves us. a lot have knocked grimes today but often he had nothing to play to so held the ball for an extra 2 seconds and then had to go for an area rather than to a player.

Very frustrating game today. 77% possession yet losing 3-0 seems insane, but if you watched the match, it makes perfect sense.

The moment that summed it all up for me was hearing the Accrington fans mockingly shouting ?WHEY? every time we passed the ball around the back while 3-0 down. That, if anything, captured the performance.

The worst part, though, was our own fans cheering as Grimes was substituted. Yes, he was poor, and yes, he might not have what it takes at this level, but I don?t agree with that kind of behaviour?it really doesn?t help. If we look back to when we were fighting relegation to the National League North, players were often booed and criticised, and it rarely ever improved their performances.

To do this to a team that started the day in the play-offs after a promotion last year, and finished the day just two points outside them, is pretty poor. I really dislike our fans at times, which is sad to say.

Our home form clearly needs improving, but if you swap some of those away wins for home draws, everyone would probably be a bit happier with the start we?ve had?even though, in terms of points, nothing would have changed.

I do think we need to train on a Plan B. Plenty of teams will come here with the blueprint we saw today, and we need a way to play through it.
