Nine months ago then treasury minister Laura Trott had to be schooled by the BBC's Evan Davis over something as simple as the difference between GDP and national debt: https://www.huffingt...4b069b665dec3e1

And it seems little's changed as she today had to be equally schooled in an interview about student loans. But hey, it's not as if she's just been appointed shadow education mininster or owt...

Genuinely unbelievable she is on the front bench. Lacks knowledge, understanding and integrity. She does however just seem to rigidly stick to her party line/point she?s been told to put across and will not be daunted, carrying on regardless. Like the Duracell bunny she just keeps on going!

This LT would need to be on an oval track too, otherwise she?d get lost.

Something in between I suspect. I'd expect that there are a fair number of Conservative MPs who believe in public service and have a level of credibility combined with a willingness to learn from officers, members and colleagues.

The thing is, in my opinion, the extent to which Badenoch and her team know anything about them, want to find out anything about them and/or know them and want them to be on the payroll. Added to this is possibly the extent to which the capable, competent and credible conservative MPs want to be in the tent with Badenoch and her team.

And to think that they could have had the eminently capable Rory Stewart in the hotseat rather than Johnson, Truss, Sunak and now Badenoch.

The capable Rory Stewart?
Would this be the same chap who said he?d bet ?100k on a Harris victory, and the same chap, sat alongside an equally dejected Alistair Campbell, that Harris ran a faultless campaign?
Really. I though she came across as a giggling fools at times, talking incoherent garbage, thanks Joe, stood on stage waving and laughing in some surreal way and turning to trashing Trump rather than anything constructive at all. Just opinions of course but I?d say they got away with one there rather than missed a trick.

Middle for diddle I believe is the saying.
Anyhow, how on earth did the Democrats not ship out Biden sooner? I understand it?s not as straight forward as the vote of no confidence our parties have but it?s been so clear to all but the most biased observer that Biden has been mentally unwell and probably medically unfit to run for a second term for at least a year. They let him carry on, probably even unfairly, until his disastrous TV debate with Trump, and by then it was too late for anyone with a plan to take his place and were left with no other choice but to select Harris as their candidate, and as I said elsewhere you only had to see her tv appearances to realise what a disaster she was.

In our cesspit of a political pool, Rory Stewart was the one politician I could relate to and I admired his loyalty to his constituents.

His integrity didn?t fit the party agenda so he was run out of Dodge. Michael Gove was fundamental in his exit from politics, a dirty slimy snake of a politician.

Rory Stewart, in my opinion would have been a solid leader and PM.

Yes, it's the capable Rory Stewart who served with distinction as a diplomat. Who held the probationary rank of second lieutenant in the Black Watch. Who learned fencing and martial arts. Who walked across Afganistan, Iran, Pakistan, India and Nepal. Who became Deputy Governor in Maysan and Dhi Qar following the Iranian invasion. Who had successful books narrating these experiences published. Who established the Turquoise Mountain Foundation in Kabul. Who was a director for the Carr Centre for Human Rights Policy. Who occcupied a number of prominent roles after being elected to Parliament. And who possessed sufficient principles to resign from the Cabinet following Boris Johnson's election as tory leader. Exactly as he said he would.

But you, of course, prefer a bloke expelled from the Commons in slouch shouldered disgrace for lying...

PS: would this be the same 'MrM' who lost a comparable amount after betting on a tory win last July....?

All a commendable record, but doesn?t mean he has his finger on the political pulse, he quite clearly doesn?t, he has a narrative and this time he was spectacularly wrong and even given his record does it mean I have to agree with him?
And lost a comparable amount, I lost ?60, not sure how you know it?s comparable to ?100k. But then you tend to know most things.

You know my preferences.

But I've the honesty to admit people of Stewart's achievement and credibility are as few and far between in my party as they are in wider politics...

Fair play and I definitely agree. I recommend his book, Politics on the edge, too

Another weak PMQ's performance by Badenoch.

Clearly scripted, unable to respond on her feet, garbling words and all too easily dismissed.

Excellent point made by a watching journalist: SKS is fronting a government having to make difficult and undeniably unpopular decisions; so if Badenoch can't land blows now, when will she....?

He?s doing that all on his own, to be fair.

It?s almost like there?s been a complete role reversal.

Woeful, unpopular, lying, deceitful government and hapless opposition.

Different colours, same old.

Two Keir standing up in a moving French military vehicle inspecting the troops reminiscent of some East European dictator. This would be funny it didn't look disturbingly odd. Catch it if you can.

Meanwhile, the journalist Alison Pearson, a respected Telegraph reporter, gets a visit from his secret police on Armistice morning inviting her down to the station to discuss a tweet she made one year ago. Anybody else read Huxley's, "Brave New World?"

This is Labour's Britain when you have a weak, insipid, lying, PM and a cabinet of inexperienced pygmy politicians with just 3 out 26 with business experience. But we are in safe hand because they've been on all the courses and have the attendance certificates to prove it.

With maximum growth of just 1.9% predicted over the next five years, NI hikes and Mad Ed set to squander billions on Net Zero which includes the absurdity of carbon capture in tanks on the sea bed verything points to a rise in unemployment and a future in which we will all be poorer, colder and experiencing power cuts. Get those candles now.
