I think things will level out. It?s been a rough start but I think that was their plan, get the sh** out the way early doors. Ratings plummeting at this point don?t really matter, there?s another 4+ years to go and so much can happen in such a short time in politics. I?d be shocked if he didn?t last the term but stranger things have happened

Labour will last the term, but I think he?s cooked already, despised more than any PM I can recall, maybe even more so than Thatcher, but that?s open to debate. He?s a souless robot who in terms of a PM is in line with Saunders as a manager, but of course time will tell.

Chris Phelps shadow home secretary.

Chris...Phelps.

Meanwhile reports suggest Labour MP's are openly celebrating Badenoch's election, now circulating embarrassing comments she's made in a way they didn't during the tory ballot.

Clearly not wanting to deter her supporters.

Then there's the BBC's Chris Mason revealing a senior Tory telling him any credibility is immediately down the tubes after re-appointing Patel.

Be interesting to see how long the bookies think she'll last...

Maybe instead of celebrating they could keep their own party doing what they said they would and not what they have criticised in the past, or perhaps even reply to constituents who have pressing questions for them and their party about the apparent two tier treatment of Miners in their constituency.

When in a great big glass house, dont throw stones. But the Labour view does seem to be we can be as ###### as them, that's OK...

Tory people or Tory MPs, very different meanings...

Paucity of Tory MPs, whether decent or not! Although looking at the Labour front bench...

Nine months ago then treasury minister Laura Trott had to be schooled by the BBC's Evan Davis over something as simple as the difference between GDP and national debt: https://www.huffingt...4b069b665dec3e1

And it seems little's changed as she today had to be equally schooled in an interview about student loans. But hey, it's not as if she's just been appointed shadow education mininster or owt...

Ian.

This is the Tory topic. You've already started and obsessively contributed to ones trashing a Labour Party you so obviously despise. So please, can you save your desperate whataboutery and at least try to discuss the points being made....?

Sorry, I thought the way now was when a party was criticised then the response was to say the last lot were rubbish. Well, it seems to be the Labour approach so I thought we could use it here...

Chris, I dont despise very much in life, drug dealers being one.... I just like to replay your own approach back to you and see how you react. I think most politicians are pretty crap on both sides as their main ability seems to be talk and argue not get stuff done....

As for obsessively contribute, can I note the irony in that comment based on your contribution to criticising the past lot? Actually lets extend that to whataboutery as you seem to define the word..

My point - they both have some dodgy front benchers, I'd add the deputy leader of the Labour party in there after her performance in the debate pre election.

Something in between I suspect. I'd expect that there are a fair number of Conservative MPs who believe in public service and have a level of credibility combined with a willingness to learn from officers, members and colleagues.

The thing is, in my opinion, the extent to which Badenoch and her team know anything about them, want to find out anything about them and/or know them and want them to be on the payroll. Added to this is possibly the extent to which the capable, competent and credible conservative MPs want to be in the tent with Badenoch and her team.

And to think that they could have had the eminently capable Rory Stewart in the hotseat rather than Johnson, Truss, Sunak and now Badenoch.

I quite liked Sunak - but he chose wrong time to be leader...

The same of course can be said of Labour, they are pursuing ideological policies of big state and big tax and supporting their union comrades, when most voters probably just want to be able to see their doctor and not wait months for a hospital appt, maybe to have a better bus service. I'd say Starmer and Reeves are as far removed from your average Labour voter as Badenoch and her crew from the normal Tory voter...

Todays politics I am afraid - do they go into it for what they can do for the people of Britain or the power and publicity it gives them? Give me Harold Wilson any day...

Hear, hear.

Sadly I imagine his slightly nervous disposition and sartorial style went against him. Very, very clever fella.
