is this a suggested line up? i'd say on that team i'd be more concerned about our lack of forward players and no keeper :ninja:

Mandeville to retain his place at RB surely. Then either Grimes or Williams in for Naylor. Metcalfe and Oldaker to start in midfield together again but you never know with Cook.

We could do with putting Williams on Grimes shoulders for when Newport lump it 60 yards to Hudlin.

Not a chance Williams will be at left back. If neither of Tanton or Campbell is fit then Mandeville will be there.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Williams with Grimes (Grimes has to start in my eyes) just because I feel we need the extra hight vs Hudlin. I'd chuck Banks in midfield too as he's tall.

Is it too late to bring back Tom Denton?

Do we see Jones come in? Not been close to the pitch all season but given a little time last weekend 🤷🏻

Grimes will play I?d have thought, with the obvious aerial threat, but if Grimes plays I think he has to have some cover in front of him for the ball on the floor and with no Naylor, Jones is the only player that offers that assurance.

Not played much and didn't exactly do well last weekend in the brief time he was on the pitch. Definitely get the logic of playing him but think I'd stick with what we've been using thus far and try to dominate with the ball.

Araujo is hardly short....in fact he's likely taller than both Grimes and Williams.

I?m inclined to agree.

Jones has been a big favourite of mine but lack of game time at his age will undoubtedly take some time to get match fit.

I was just thinking out loud as they say, a relatively surprise run out last week coupled with the probable inclusion of Grimes.

Very true but Hudlin will peel off to whoever our shorter centre half is so I'd expect Grimes and Araujo to play... or will they, because Cook loves to spring a surprise and he likes his centre halves' dominant foot to match the side they're playing on. In theory Hudlin should win every ball lofted up to him assuming he can jump more than a couple of inches off the ground, so think it's more about cutting off his supply, maybe even dropping off him to pick up his flick ons and being clever blocking at set pieces as opposed to winning individual aerial battles against him.

Anyway he's crap and won't bag on Friday.

Yep he will be looking for balls like they provided Jatta to score with on Saturday where he gets to run onto a ball against a static\backpedalling defender. In those cases if he is capable of jumping even a bit it will be a danger so as you say cut out those crosses. The post i replied to suggested Williams and Grimes together to combat Hudlin which is just strange when Araujo is probably taller than both of them.

He scored this header against Bradford last week but he barely gets off the floor and its crap defending to score a free header :-

The comments under the tweet are amusing....pretty much all saying he is crap!

I think we might be over overestimating Hudlin because he was never that affective in the air. That said he has score good headed goals in consecutive matches recently, so he may be improving.

Also, I don't think they are a long ball team from what I saw of them against Bradford recently. He is not the most mobile target man - think Tom Denton

I watched that match too. Didn't think he was anything bar his hight. Good header for goal bit if you're 9ft tall and don't score that there's nowt to his game

Just cant see Cook wanting to move away from a full back that will offer something going forward.

There is not a chance Williams will come from completely out of the cold to starting at full back.

Does whichever foot the defender favours affect their heading ability?
