The beauty of football is that it is a simple game that has been overcomplicated in recent years by people trying to justify coaching badges. Despite this we can all have views and see things differently, especially regarding players.
No more is this evident than with the Jacobs controversy. As I said in that thread we had a similar debate regarding Phil Bonnyman years ago. Bonnyman was a class player that anybody who knew the game could see, however others just looked at his clean shorts and decided this was evidence he didn?t try.and was rubbish.

Going back further I can?t recall anybody who rated Tony Moore who my childhood memories of him were that he was crap, however he played a lot so manager and maybe some fans may have rated him.

More recently in Cook?s previous spell I sat next to a couple for who Gary Roberts could do nothing right and they were always on his back at the same time they loved Gnaduillet always shouting encouragement to him. Now in my humble opinion Armand was usually ineffectual and nowhere near the player Roberts was.

As I say it?s all about opinions and the only one that really matters is that of the current manager.

It's completely subjective (unless you watched man United on sunday when they were all terrible ha)I'm

For me I class a good player as strong, honest, reliable, team player, consistent, skilful and willing to learn.

Human beings make mistakes. Some make less mistakes than others. I can live with that.

Folk tend to single out what they think is a weak link in the squad due to not playing regularly.
Jacobs is light years ahead of other team's squad players.
It just so happens he's not first name on the team sheet so in some folks eyes, not very good - which is nonsense

Interesting that 5 out of the 6 attributes you list apart from skilful seem to embody someone who runs about a lot without an end product. They are just basics of being a professional.

Personally, if the player isn't a press-resistant, line-breaking, high-xG mezzala who possesses several different weapons, then I'm not interested.

Yes correct

What does Paul Cook say about his squad \ recruitment? I only want good lads. The rest I can work on.

Sure you need to be a very competent footballer within all that

Talent and ability are only good if you have the attributes I mentioned.

How many talents have failed over the years. Rather be in pub or out with the bird

You need to be an exceptional human being to be one of the best footballers. It's quite a job description!

Only have to look at Jamie Burt from our own past to see you need the application as well as the talent.

I worked with someone in the 90?s who refused to attend a match whilst ever Andy Morris and Jamie Hewitt were at the club. He stuck to it for many years until the 2 faced so-and-so got a front row ticket for the semi in 97 and got his heavily painted face plastered all over the media.
If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything.

Michael Simpkins, Chris Perkins and Nigel Hart spring to mind as players whom fans took against, perhaps Andy Rushbury too.
Can't recall anyone thinking Gary Roberts was less than class.
These go to eleven.

Jamie Hewitt is another who got a lot of stick, especially from the left back heckling crew at the Compton/Kop corner

He did, but though he played almost everywhere including keeper, I can't recall him playing left-back. Great lad

Jamie Hewitt is probably a good example of a solid, honest, hard working professional who was lead and managed fantastically to be the best he could be

His bit part showings have not been great this season, we are allowed to voice that opinion.

I?m old enough to remember when Mark Allott was a bit of a boo boy to some up at Saltergate, even thought he was such an excellent player and servant to the club

Mark Allott was a great player but it took a while to appreciate how good he was, probably has the highest pass completion record of any town player in ourhistory, he didn?t score enough goals but he kept the game flowing.
ITS NOT THE WINNING,ITS THE TAKING APART
