Mystifying as to why Naylor isn't playing midfield.
Ditto as to why Drummond is starting up top. Our squad is absolutely stacked in midfield and shy up top and in central defence. Grimes should have been offloaded if we don't think he can do it in this league.
Today was far from a classic.
I thought we were wasteful with the ball but I'm not too concerned because we're holding our own against established league sides. Had Boot not dropped one, Cheltenham could have played until midnight and not scored.
I think by moving Tom Naylor to CD, we've solved one problem and created a bigger issue in CM. My only criticism of our recruitment to date is that we've not gone out and signed a combative midfield player to play alongside Naylor. Rolling back the years to that great partnership of Morsy and Ryan, both could play but both could do the dirty work when called upon. You've only got to look at Mike Jones' role in our success last season to realise what that type of player adds to the starting 11.
As for Jamie Grimes, I'm going to stick up for him. I thought against Grimsby, he had a good game and showed that he can compete. I was disappointed that he didn't start against Vale and he should consider himself extremely unlucky.
I said a few weeks ago on here that the risk of introducing so many new signings is that we start to lose our identity. I feel that's possibly where we're currently at. That said, I don't think it will be too long before Naylor returns to CM and some of our more experienced players return to the starting 11.
