I think most on here were worried about the defence, based on some of the goals we conceded last season.

Surprisingly its the other end where the problems lie. Take out the the 5 goals from Crewe, and we have scored 4 goals in 5 games.

Hoping that Grigg's injury isn't bad, but with Madden sat on the sidelines, Drummond lacking in experience, Quigley departed to Gloucestershire, and Berry also going off today with a knock, Im concerned we have 3 months to wait until a window opens before any reinforcements are brought in.

The performance today highlights that it is unlikely we will figure in any promotion shakeup at the end of the campaign.

bit early to be giving up on promotion, we are 6 games in, new league, quite a lot of new players to really settle into the club, a few key players still to return to the side. we were never going to be hitting the regular 3's and 4's of last season. People often say look at the table after 10 games and you get an idea, and that's all it is an idea, even at that point there is so much football to play out, i'd give it until about march time before giving up on promotion this season.

Christ on a bike, how many games we played and what do you expect when we have to utilise the lads. Injuries have not been kind and 2 suspensions have hit us hard. Show a bit of patience.
God I hate this league.

To be factual, we won the game for which Dunkley was suspended so it did not cost us at all.

Today, we were without Oldaker who some think should not be in the team anyway. Yes, we lost the game but was it because Oldaker was suspended or was it because most of the players selected did not perform to the level we expect? We have a squad for a reason and if that squad is as strong as some think we should be able to perform well even if we lose one man to suspension.

I have seen nothing of the game but, reading between the lines, we were out fought and out thought. If that is the case, some of it might be down to the players not adapting to the game and some of it could be management not adapting to the tactics of the opposition.

That said, we are not going to win every game. Expectancy has probably been too high. And, as fans, we need to stick together and stay behind the team. We have waited too long to get back into the EFL so win, lose, or draw we should stick with Cook and the lads.

We can sign a free agent striker should we need to so we don?t have to wait 3 months.

Spoke to Swindon manager the other day and they targeted Naylor in the air and Port Vale did today. He should be in midfield. We missed Oldaker today and Banks far too deep. Early days but we certainly are lacking up front.

We are missing Mandeville (back today as a sub) Madden, Co Co, Grigg now injured as well, Palmer, and Grimes. Add Sheckleford into that as well and DJs ban - that?s a lot of options cookie didn?t have to select from.

Sheckleford?.Grimes?Palmer ?.@@@@@

?????..Oldaker??

Colclough?..@@@@?..Manderville?..

???..Grigg??.Madden.

At least wait for some of these to be fit, and for Cookie to be able to select his strongest side and bench before writing the season off

Not read the full match day thread but my thoughts on yesterday

Deserved nothing, but the game was a poor one.
We were bullied, out fought and ran all over, particularly in midfield. They had 6 booked, and we had no shots on target which says it all
Naylor needs to play CDM, for various reasons - but the main one is he is our best player there, and second one is he isn?t good enough in the air
We looked very toothless up top, Grigg barely had a sniff, and Drummond even less so
We rely a lot on getting on the ball and getting it out wide, their press and intensity meant we never could get Dobs, Markanday and Berry into the game at all.
Banks was too deep at times in search of the ball, not where we need him.

Not a chance of palmer starting ahead of a fit Dunkley, palmer even when fit will be lucky to make the bench
all we are saying, is give us ...a goal, or 2+

There is no denying with the departure of Quigley, and with the injury to Grigg we do need more and different options up front. I suspect Cookie and his team have been looking out for a replacement but have had no joy so far. However, discounting the 5 goals against Crewe is simply manipulating stats to provide a false situation. We did score 5 against Crewe and this shows what we are capable of. Maybe we should change the stats to show as goals all those penalties that should have been given, or when we've hit the post etc and judge our attacking prowess by that new number?!? Bottom line is, in League games this season, we've scored 9 in 6 and this has been bettered by only 3 teams.

It has taken only 6 games for the pathetic doom-sayer in you to return. Interestingly, you want to discount the out-rider good performance against Crewe, and judge our goalscoring on what remains, yet when judging our chances of promotion this season, you want to focus solely on our out-rider worst performance this season. Your agenda is clear.

Discounting any of the goals we?ve scored this season, we?re clearly struggling to score goals. And if you include all of the shots the opposition has taken which could?ve gone in, we could?ve conceded loads of goals.

Without wanting to discredit any contributions - they're all valid - we've had this same conversation throughout Cook's tenures (plural).

In essence, we play excellent football but can be outmuscled.

I agree with the calls for Naylor's return to midfield - though a player of his class could impress almost anywhere - and either Grimes or the Fulham lad to add height to our defence.

The much mentioned 'plan B' is less easy to address - unless our benefactors are prepared to fund another OOC signing, however our diminutive yet fluid front four has overcome these concerns in the past...
