He's the Director of Football in all but name now. He's given a budget and spends it as he sees fit. He is head honcho in the recruitment room, He appoints the coaching staff, he has oversight of the academy, all along with his first team duties.

Do you think (if Cook signs long term) DW will stick around waiting or will he apply for the next local managerial job that comes up?
We all know Webb loves the club and area but he could be waiting years for Cook, and you can't turn back the clock

Presumably depends on whether he has any desire to be a manager or happy with the role he has, dont think all assistants always want the pressure and limelight being a manager comes with. He's never been linked with other roles to date and seems happy in his current role and is settled in the area.

Be an idiot not to with the way clubs hire and fire at a whim, he?s got reasonable security with us.

Would a Cook extension involve the rest of his team having their contracts extended?

From what I've heard and seen of Danny, he realises and appreciates that it's good to be part of something special. Managers, coaches and players can go through their entire careers without experiencing promotions, trips to Wembley and the matchday atmospheres that we're currently enjoying.
We're in a good place and there is a lot of value in being part of it.

What guarantee does Danny have in assuming the role ?
I regard him highly but a lot of interviewees appear to mention GR and KR in terms of their development.

Absolutely none, but what he does have, is a stable position at a club and town he says he loves. The fans seem to like him, and how many who are second in command can say that? He's part of Cook's team, and an important cog in the machine.

A lot of it will boil down to money. If we are paying him close to what a manager in L2 would get (no idea if we are) on the basis Cook will likely be one of if not the best paid himself, he may be perfectly content to continue enjoying life in Chesterfield. He's got a local girlfriend and seems to enjoy it round here.

He knows that he's as safe as he can be in the mad world of football, but if he leaves to go for the top job he may not be on manager's wages for long if things don't pan out. These days, managers aren't given long to make an impression before they're an ex manager, so I'm sure he'll be weighing everything up if the time comes, or there's an offer on the table.

Good move for all parties. Surprised Oldham or Southend didn?t come in for him. Think he will do well for the Bees.
