Probably looked in our trophy cabinet realised we had hammered rangers and opted for the real blue army

I think this signing means Madden will definitely play alongside Grigg if not to replace him at times to surprise the opposition. Can?t fault Grigg for his work rate but he?s a bit predictable and gets bullied by the defenders with his lack of mobility and height. We need an element of surprise and that?s what we can get from Madden with what is now a very overcrowded midfield.

Gets bullied? Another of your insights? He doesn't get bullied,he gets fouled bordering on assault at times without protection from the officials game after game, but bullied...nah.

Incidentally he had a face like thunder when exiting the pitch on Saturday undoubtedly caused by the caution for the linos cockup and the fact there appeared to be no recognition for the treatment he received. He was probably being very professional by leaving the pitch on the whistle to avoid shaking the ref by the throat rather than the hand.

It's going to be very difficult for opposition managers to second guess our lineup, because change won't weaken us.

I?ll give you Swindon and Salford as examples. Neither of these teams were great shakes and we should have buried both of them with our quality. Call it poor tactics or the wrong line-up there?s an explanation, especially as far as Salford is concerned - extreme naivety but the manager put the blame on ?chaos? in the team?.JQ defending deep etc?he made the B****Y substitutions after all, putting on two forwards on after they they put two forwards on and us defending a 1-0 lead. Indefensible in my opinion but from what I.ve seen since he realises that just playing the PC way will not work in this league - long may this continue (I hope even though I appreciate the principle). Hence my view that we need to be a bit more unpredictable depending on the opposition we face.

Playing just one way gives the opposition a hand. Take it away and we?ll walk it with our squad

My humble opinion

I agree, sometimes we need to mix things up, but I was talking more about personnel than systems. Some of Cook's substitutions have puzzled me. On occasions we needed Drummond or Berry to replace Grigg, as a quick player darting into the box between two yeti sized centre backs can pay more dividends than Quigley being strangled with his own shirt. We have the squad to enable us to meet any threat no matter what system we play, and I think we'll see more system tweaks.

Will Grigg certainly doesn't get bullied, fouled without protection from the officials yes. Paddy Madden has been playing in the number ten role so I'm guessing that's where he'll mostly play. I can't see him replacing Grigg if he's on from the start in the ten role. I could definitely see him replacing Grigg from the bench though.

Just watched the interview on you tube. Things certainly moved quickly - saying that on day two he asked if any availability. Interesting also last week was his first week of training. Can?t imagine being a starter for a while. Hope that this is a sensible deal from our end wages wise and glad a year deal

Correct he gets fouled massively with no protection from the officials and works his socks off

However, Chris, even Cookie has reverted to 3 at the back a few times already this season on top of which we do not appear to be playing it about as much in front of our own penalty area.

We will always be possession based under PC but I do think he, himself, has referred to a few things he is trying to get us to do differently this season.

What a signing this should be, Blackburn thought he was good enough for the championship last season before he got injured, really looking forward to seeing him.
