interesting article from the guardian 2 years ago named him as one of the best 20 talents at premier league clubs:
A real competitor with an outstanding passing range, the Wigan-born midfielder joined Everton at under-5 level and recently signed his first professional contract with the club days after his 17th birthday. Metcalfe can play off both feet, has impressive technical ability and is a dead-ball specialist. He can also score a variety of goals and intercepts or regains possession with fierce intensity. At 16, he broke into the under-18s team this year and scored twice in 10 outings. There was also a debut for the under-23s in April. Metcalfe has said of his game: “I see myself as a tempo-setter, so I look up to Sergio Busquets. He’s so relaxed on the ball.” Andy Hunter
September 2022 update Beat Richarlison and Andros Townsend in a vote for Everton’s goal of the month award last October with a stunning strike for the Under-18s against West Ham only for injury to subsequently stall his progress.
October 2023 update Everton’s confidence in the 19-year-old was underlined last September when he signed a new four-year contract having recovered from a serious knee injury. Now starting regularly for the Under-21s.

Yeah maybe. As good as Naylor is at cdm him and dunkley have looked very good together at centre back. We seem to be a lot more solid at the back. I for one am less nervous when the opposition are on the attack with these 2 as compared to last season.
With oldaker and banks I think you need to play one or the other paired with a defensive midfielder such as jones or this new lad.
I?d imagine we would see a mixture of the new lad and jones with oldaker and banks depending on the opposition however I would not be surprised to see oldaker paired with the new lad more often than not.
