Tell you what I?ve not half missed a bit of deadline day natter. Wasn?t the same when we were non league and James Rowe would sign a player every other day midway through a season.

metcalfe signs on season long loan.

interesting article from the guardian 2 years ago named him as one of the best 20 talents at premier league clubs:

A real competitor with an outstanding passing range, the Wigan-born midfielder joined Everton at under-5 level and recently signed his first professional contract with the club days after his 17th birthday. Metcalfe can play off both feet, has impressive technical ability and is a dead-ball specialist. He can also score a variety of goals and intercepts or regains possession with fierce intensity. At 16, he broke into the under-18s team this year and scored twice in 10 outings. There was also a debut for the under-23s in April. Metcalfe has said of his game: “I see myself as a tempo-setter, so I look up to Sergio Busquets. He’s so relaxed on the ball.” Andy Hunter

September 2022 update Beat Richarlison and Andros Townsend in a vote for Everton’s goal of the month award last October with a stunning strike for the Under-18s against West Ham only for injury to subsequently stall his progress.

October 2023 update Everton’s confidence in the 19-year-old was underlined last September when he signed a new four-year contract having recovered from a serious knee injury. Now starting regularly for the Under-21s.

'With Ollie Banks and Darren Oldaker we have got two lads who are playing extremely well, we obviously have still got Mike Jones who we really like, and obviously Jenson comes in now to that area to compete.'

Does this mean cookie doesnt see naylor as playing in midfield much this year?

Yeah maybe. As good as Naylor is at cdm him and dunkley have looked very good together at centre back. We seem to be a lot more solid at the back. I for one am less nervous when the opposition are on the attack with these 2 as compared to last season.

With oldaker and banks I think you need to play one or the other paired with a defensive midfielder such as jones or this new lad.

I?d imagine we would see a mixture of the new lad and jones with oldaker and banks depending on the opposition however I would not be surprised to see oldaker paired with the new lad more often than not.

Maddens a 10. So we have 1 striker.

I?m not a fan of these kids who have never played men?s football

I imagine both Hobson and Horton will be loaned out. I think we'll hang on to Quigley.
