Based on Paul Cook?s statement about people needing game time and the need to field at least four outfield players that featured in the previous game.

Boot
Campbell Williams Grimes Horton
Akinola Jones
Markanday Banks Berry
Drummond

Would not be surprised if he subbed Banks and Berry at HT and brought on Hobson and one of the academy lads and the other two Crewe starters soon after

That's how the game needs treated but you can't unless you want the club fined and anyway at least three or four need game time

We had 15 outfield players feature against Crewe so if all the substitutes are named as starters does not that cover the rules even before the likes of Jones, Grimes, Horton, Akinola, Williams and Drummond are included?

The competition lost some credibility when it allowed clubs to enter their U21 teams.

No it means at least 4 in the starting eleven of the preceding first team game (or the subsequent first team game). I'm sure it was 6 at one point.

Exactly.
It's a competitive run out boarding a reserves fixture.

I?m going Campbell, Markanday, Boot and Berry. Boot and Berry to be subbed on 20 minutes.

For the group games, they are potentially a great opportunity to give game time to fringe players and if we somehow progress then only start taking it seriously at the semi final stage. Jessop on the bench I think was planning for this game

I'm sure clubs did that when the PFL U21 first entered. Don't see anything in the rules to prevent that. CPL will probably argue it doing so would mess with integrity of the competition, what integrity?

It is ridiculous that this competition is the only one that has such stipulations. I am sure the excuse was that the sponsors insisted on it but I would not be surprised if it was the PFL.

The eligibility rules for the EFL Trophy are viewable here: https://www.efl.com/...l-trophy-rules/

The jist is that there has to be 4 players who have

- STARTED the previous league game (Crewe)
or
-will start the next league game (Salford)

-in the top 10 players for STARTS this season, which I think covers the Derby game too (so any player that has started 2+ over the 3 games)

- have made 40+ first team starts, not necessarily for Town, ever

-are loaned from a prem team (Tanton, Araujo) or from a team who have a cat 1 academy

Very convoluted - but it is only 4 of the players that start that need to meet these criteria

From reading the rules, my understanding is that we could field a team with Boot, Tanton, Araujo and Quigley in it and meet the criteria

Unless Cook was planning to literally play the u18s, it would be almost impossible not to field at least 4 'eligible' players. Williams/Grimes/Jones/Horton would all have made 40+ starts in their careers. Akinola/Jessop/Drummond/Mohiuddin/Cook the only ones I can think of who wouldn't count towards the 4 as 'eligible'

It would surely be madness to risk Boooooot, even for 20?

Didn't the prize money go up as an incentive to win games in this when the current competition sponsors came in? Either way, I can see us not bothering much with it. Il watch it from the lodge in skeg either way

I was going on Webb?s post match interview, he was still noncommittal about introducing the youngster.

I agree with your interpretation except for Boot - unless he was playing outfield

?Full Available Strength? means the EFL Club must include at least four Qualifying Players in the ten outfield Players named in the starting eleven on the Team Sheet.

Counting on loan players from a Cat 1 academy in the ?Full Available Strength? definition is an odd condition as the whole point of the inclusion of PFL U21 is to give their academy players experience against hardened EFL pros

Play the fringe players.
Maximum fine of 5k. A drop in the ocean compared to Grigg Dunks etc picking up an injury
