It's a good job as it gave the 100 or so Derby lads some people to glare at and pretend to be angry with.

Oh I know mate, as we walked back to the station 6 or 7 of the Derby ?hards? tried to start on my lad as they thought he was on his own. They weren?t so brave when I turned and told them to start with me. They still kept following us up the road trying their best to be intimidating 😂

The whole thing was witnessed by some town lads who happened to be a few steps behind and came to check what had happened. Long story short, not so long later a couple of the Derby lads were splattered across the pavement.

Ah well, as the saying goes, ?play stupid games, win stupid prizes?

Kudos lads - you know who you are 😉

Speaking of the station in Derby, whilst my lad and I encountered no hassle either walking to the stadium and back something else worries me - not Derby knuckleheads but getting a ticket in the post.

When I pulled onto the car park just before the mini roundabout where a police car was, the barrier was up. No ticket was provided in order to get out again later which I didn't need because the exit barrier was up.

This was the car park charging ?2 for the evening.

Did anyone else experience the same?

Yes we parked in there (zone 3 though), unfortunately I arrived 5.50pm so 10 minutes before the night time charge started. Cost me ?7.50 to get out instead of ?2 because of the extra 10 minutes🙄

Don?t know if the barrier was left permanently open after 6 though, hence it was a total freebie?

On Berry, he looked like he was struggling with the level that Derby were playing at, he looked a little out of his depth and the full back kept him under wraps. To be fair to him, he was playing at level 6 or 7 just over a year ago and he admitted how hard it was to step up when he joined us. I think he needs to keep working and keep learning but when everyone else is available I think he?s a player to come off the bench, not as a starter.

Think he got carried away with the over the top reaction in our ranks to our promotion.

He needs to get his head down our he'll find himself on a downward spiral. Although more potential than Jez, they may end up playing in the same league

My thoughts..in no particular order

We have plenty of depth, but not so sure we have quality within it. We definitely need a CB (get Naylor back in CDM), a Keeper (playing with fire not having one on the bench) and a Striker (Our plan B being Quigley is just not good enough - as much as I like him and he runs his bollox off)

Thought we looked really good in spells last night, kept the ball nicely, moved it around and looked like the better side in spells. The absolute flip of that is I think we really tired and got sloppy in the 2nd half, gave it away a lot - DJ, Grimes, Banks, Berry, Quigley all culpable at times.

Thought they were there for the taking, but we didn't really push on late in the game with all the fresh legs and pace on the pitch - last 15/20 slightly underwhelming as a result, but like I said, I think we were cooked - suprised Dobra, Gordon etc lasted 90 mins as they ran themselves into the ground.

Dunkley - looks a cracking signing, what a player, and a serious leader as well. Full fullbacks look quality acquisitions - classy players.

Hobson - contender for man of the match - wanted the ball, wanted to have a go, came close a couple of times. Very different to Berry who looked down on confidence, didn't want to get at their RB at all, and gave the ball away far too much. Maybe he is just a better impact sub against tiring fullbacks who he has more confidence he can beat.

Won't read too much into it as Derby are a level above us, albeit I think they will struggle this season.

Support was fab too, I know it's not far and it was ?10 a ticket, but it was really good. Hopefully more of the same at Crewe.

Good post. I only listened on 1866 and watched the highlights but it?s clear that Dunkley is a catch and the real leader in the team as well as being a solid CB.Hobson ought to have hit the target with at least one or two of his attempts but he?s a genuine player who should develop into a lot better technician in time. But will he stay this season with the squad restrictions or go on loan ?

Lots of negative posts about Berry. Maybe understandable tonight I can?t say but this lad has loads of skill, a bit naive at times but lacks confidence. The injury to Colclough could be a blessing in disguise as the latter hasn?t exactly impressed as the first choice either. Distribution and effort found wanting (not for the first time) too but less criticised in comparison to Berry. He needs to be given more time as a starter but I don?t think this is in PC?s plans unless injuries dictate. He can play down the middle too which Is a plus but obviously not going to happen this year at least.

Both backs are very solid, Gordon defensively (although he got caught napping last night a couple of times). Assuming Naylor is fit he definitely needs to start as the holding midfield against Crewe with MJ on the bench icon. Defensively I think we?ve definitely improved compared to last year without a doubt.

Early doors I know but we need to create more clear-cut chances as others have mentioned. Dobra has been outstanding at grabbing half-chances but we need a bit more from elsewhere. If Crewe are an attacking/pressing side do we do like Burnley vs Luton and go for a long ball to feed our faster forward players ? Otherwise we could be looking at 3-3 or 4-4 instead of having the first 3-pointer. Over to you PC

Either way a good game in prospect. Can?t wait

For the first time in 30yrs I returned home on the train. really enjoyed travelling back it was packed and we had to stand up. The behave of about 300 Town fans was impeccable and as we stepped onto the platform back home it reminded me of the great train journeys we had on the Specials mainly run by the great Barry Watson. felt as proud as ever to be a Spireite last night.

I only have the highlights to go on, as I couldn't get to the match, but I feel it was a very creditable performance by us. We generally appeared to play an excellent passing game, and were quite unfortunate to lose, as the Derby winner came about as a result of two or three rebounds/deflections that fell for them. Our goal was excellent, with a superbly clinical finish from Dobra, following a superb assist from Quigley. It's disappointing, IMO, to see a couple of posters persisting with derogatory comments re Joe Quigley who played very well, and laid on Dobra's goal brilliantly by coolly holding the ball while surrounded by three defenders, and judging the direction and weight of his outside-of-the-foot pass so perfectly that Dobra didn't have to break his stride. Quigley proved wrong those who said he wouldn't be good enough to combat L2 defenders, by comprehensively outplaying those from two levels higher.

I like Joe Quigley, and I feel he's a totally different player to the one we signed. He's learning all the time, and I'm sure that it's partly down to working with players like Will Grigg. He's never going to bang in headers as per Ernie Moss, or burst through a defence like Dobra, but his game is certainly getting there.

His hold up for the goal and setting up Dobra was an excelling bit of play. When you see that side of his game you can see what Cookie sees in him

No, nor did I see him 'comprehensively outplaying those from two levels higher'.
