Glad you said that. There's no chance he will now.

Trouble is if the Gateshead game is owt to go by every time he falls over he gets a penalty.

Djaune Brown apparently starting for Derby, the guy linked with a season long loan here a month back. You just know the guy will have a great game and score against us.

Well you would say that wouldn't you? How's your day going? Has anything remotely positive happened?

3000 odd going is a great effort in this cup. Should be a good evening, hope we have a good and do ourselves justice. If they are anything like the side that turned up here in pre season we may have half a chance.

Listening to their No.2, Richie Barker, he seemed to be saying a number of their last Friday non starters will be on the pitch initially.
Then he went onto say- We want to win, and if we need to change things after 20 minutes, we will.

Could be a very interesting game this one. They had a strong side against us in pre-season and, after having a couple of near misses early on, didn't look a good side / we looked a better side over the 90.

As far as I am aware they haven't strengthened since pre-season v us. We've lost Shecks, Palmer and Madden but have brought in the very promising Tanton.

On the other hand they got tonked and are at home so will be looking to turn the tables. But they probably won't have much of a following in what looks likely to be a half-empty ground. And town have pretty much sold out.

Anything from them winning by 4 and us winning by a couple isn't beyond the realms of all possibilities.

In the end it might come down to who makes what subs when perhaps. A really interesting match up.

Stating the fairly obvious, for Cook this is pretty much a shot to nothing.

Of course they lost Bird this season who was like a fixture at the club for years and a very good player.

Looking at the highlights from the weekend they look weak defensively but still a team to be reckoned with.

Personally I?d try out Berry and Drummond up front - nothing to lose and a good gauge for the EFL games to come as an alternative to just having Grigg up front. Ball over the top ?

We definitely need to adapt our style of play depending on the opposition before and during the match to achieve success in this league, otherwise teams will suss us out a bit like Swindon last week in the 2nd half even though the goal was a bit of a one-off.

I agree with the bottom statement, I envisage we will probably dominate possession in the majority of games this year, the issue will be putting the ball away whilst we are on top. We look susceptible to the big boot forward breakaways, which will probably be more in play this year than last due to the extra bit of quality from the opposition.

Thanks for your support Gordon but I?m expecting lots of unfounded criticism as usual (without talking about our bad rating on this board) especially from posters who are stuck in the PC mould ie never question the tactics because they haven?t any alternative to offer apart from what?s offered

No provocation intended - let?s just look at this match as a means to improve our chances of progressing in this league by experimenting all our options rather than waiting to 70+ minutes and expecting a miracle

Quigley Berry and Hobson in for Grigg, Coco and Jacob?s.
No Mandy on the bench!

Been no mention of injuries ahead of the game unless it?s been picked up today?

Mandy a strange one. Injured or rested?

Derby have 4 changes, including Brown starting. Rams fans almost as excited as Gordon at his appearance.

Fancied us today but a bit disappointed to see us starting with Hobson and Quigley. It just feels a bit like getting minutes into people when I?d have loved to have seen us really have a go.

Understandable from Cooks point of view but still looking forward to what is effectively a free hit

Sensible from cook. Grigg clearly number one striker and needs to be protected.

I?d hoped they would be both out on loan by now but hey ho, love them to make that hope ill advised.

No such thing as a free hit👎 Where has that awful phrase come from

I agree with your first comments. I beg to be corrected but I can?t see this line-up giving our team the options to change our tactics in EFL games. Hopefully this doesn?t mean we?re stuck in the same pattern of play in every game.

This is the ideal opportunity to experiment after all.

I was hoping that after Cook had a meeting with players who weren?t part of his plans, we?d probably seen the last appearances of Quigley and Hobson. Sadly this doesn?t look the case.

Again, I will be absolutely shot down in flames, but it seems we have are hamstrung with players on contracts that no one else wants, that are on good wages that will just see out there contracts.

It will take 2/3 years to get this side into anything like challenging for promotion out of this league IMO.

Cook might think it?s an opportunity to put Quigley and Hobson in the loan shop window.

18 of our outfield players from our current 23 man squad are named tonight.

Those missing include Horton & Mandeville both of whom I assume are fit to play plus the 3 who are injured, Madden, Sheckleford & Palmer.

You might be right. It might take that long, but if we follow the progression that we achieved in the National League, by the time we are properly challenging we'll be ready to go up.
