As many have already said lots of positives to take from tonight. Denied a stonewall penalty, they came out with more fight in the second half. Wright had a shot which went well wide just 5 minutes before his wonder strike. First game and first booking for Cooky. King had a poor game, must be difficult when your debut is against your former club, but I can see him back in National league soon.

Our 2 fullbacks are a definite upgrade and Dunkley looks a real leader at the back.

He didn't have a lot to do defensively but I thought the our Texan Columbian looked like he has plenty in the tank and lots of class.

Sometimes you just have to applaud a goal.

The strike was great but he strolled through unchallenged 40 yrds!!

little margins sometimes in football, for me if naylor is in centre mid tonight that goal doesn't happen, he was so good at snuffing out that kind of thing all last season, thought he did great at centre back but i'd like him back in the middle of the pitch soon as.

He will be. It's good to have a Rolls Royce out there but you'd rather be able to put it into 3rd gear.

Not many mentions of Devan Tanton. I thought he was very good tonight. Sheckleford will struggle getting back into the side on that performance. It's clear already that the lad has proper talent.

When was the last time we came across a ref that was actually on our side?

From where I was, it looked a shocker not to give a pen on Jacobs. Grigg should?ve scored from 8-10 yards out just before HT, just made it a nice height for the keeper. Loads of positives overall, but disappointed we did not turn up for most of the second half and the subs made little to no impact?

They were fortunate on two counts. Looked an absolute stonewall penalty (from a long way away but trust my eyes) and their man should have picked up a second yellow for the shove with 10ish to go.

Absolutely, but what would you expect from someone with the name of Oldham!!!

Talking of names we should be OK this season with Gordon Banks named on the team sheet (reading vertically, thanks "MD")
Derbyshire is Derbyshire
Yorkshire is Yorkshire

On a technical point. The EFL has Swindon top of the league. Shouldnt we be top alphabetically? Thoughts please.? Is it done on average height of the team in which case Swindon would be top as their No 10 was 7ft 6.

I can only think that after Pts, GD, GS, GA, it goes to head to head and being Swindon got the draw away from home that puts them ahead of us

Tanton was excellent as we're the rest of the team...first half at any rate! Average second half though but overall I thought that we should have had the 3 points...particularly with the stonewall penalty!

It's an interesting one regarding who makes the final squad given how tight the number of players allowed is. On that performance Tanton is potentially first choice all season and with Vontae (who looked good in pre-season) as back up, where does that leave Shecks? Given he is potentially out for months will Cook pick him and to a certain extent the same goes for Palmer. It would be harsh on either to be left out due to injury but Cook may want cover in different areas....

Tanton definitely a good shout for motm. Gordon was excellent too but I am going for Banks.

Guessing both Palmer and Sheckleford will go out on loan when fit to get match fitness...

I tend to agree Tim. Though in terms of salary cap financially it would be a bit blow to have 2 senior players either sat on the sidelines, loaned out when fit or contract paid up. It would also be very harsh on them as if fit both would feature....conundrum for both Cook and the men in charge of the budget!

We?re Swindon this league?s Boreham Wood and Solihull, or was this a tactic just to stop us playing? Dark artists

Someone mentioned it a few posts up but we struggle to break down any side which deploys a high press. Hope it?s not a sign of things to come this season for opposing manager.

I would think so Chris but sadly it sounds like that will be more towards November / December time.

Cook adamant that he wants more players so it seems likely more than Palmer and Sheckleford will miss out.

Also wonder why he singled out Fulham as being excellent to deal with?
