With these 2 looking like long term injuries already, do we name them in the 22 or wait until the January window when we can take our time and bring them back to fitness without having to rush them.. ?

Personally would choose the latter, ( as long as you can adjust the squad in January that is?)

This also gives the option of a half season loan as cover..

all we are saying, is give us ...a goal, or 2+

That sounds a sensible albeit costly suggestion if they are out for at least 3-4 months

That's one of the problems with this squad naming business.

I suppose in this respect it's better to know they are long term injured before you have to name the 22, as aspose to getting injured a game or 2 after, at least we now have a choice to make

Shecks is up to two months I think Webb said. Similar with Madden.

And, if that is the case then 3 weeks of it is before the season kicks off.

Unless it is considered that they will not be available for selection until January they will be included in our 22 man squad of players over the age of 21.

RB is the main position of concern but we do have a trialist with us and we can still boost the squad with U21 players. However, if we do sign the trialist then another player will have to be moved out.

I was very impressed with the trialist No 32 at RB against the Blades. Hes fast, strong, skilfull and got up and down the wing. He would be a good proposition for us in L2.

The squad doesn't need to be finalised until the start of September which is over two months away.

I'm assuming players can feature in August and then not be included in the submitted player list. Obviously there is a lot of issues with that policy but it illustrates no hasty decisions are necessary or desirable, after all we may get a crucial long term injury in August.

Most clubs at our new level have youngsters they can at least call on in an emergency. Not sure we have that luxury

Agreed. He didn't look completely match fit though. Presuming that he can crack on with his fitness soonish he looks a prospect.

This is why we need a few under 21 year old players who've been given the push from further up the leagues. Not all will be winners but some will, and may well do a job for us before moving on at a profit. I'm all for having a properly funded academy, where we bring on local lads and lasses, but it needs a proper reserve or under 21 side that plays week in week out.

Well we know we have to sign another GK and right back, I'd throw in another CB (young one) and a Striker (the Curtis replacement, unless the plan was that Kane D will fill that role)

I'd still like to bring in Freckleton on loan as he won't be counted in the 22 and he can cover two positions. I think Drummond needs playing up top tonight for thirty minutes to give us a look at him there. The trialist looks a decent full back with plenty of pace, he can cross a ball, and he gets stuck into the tackle, but who do we move on to slot him in?

I don't want Frecks back he is too slow, he had 1 great performance but I'm sure there is better out there.

Your opinion on him goes out the window the moment you claim he is slow....he was comfortably our quickest defender last season! Were you not at Watford when he twice chased down attackers who got clean through and he prevented goals from happening by catching them and getting a challenge in.

Dave, if Freckleton is too slow, I'd love to see your version of fast. Just remember,he played one game in his natural position and had a blinder. His performances at left back were so so, but he was learning on the job. Sheffield United haven't given him a further two year contract for nothing, it's because he's a left sided centre back with pace, who can work the ball. If you know any under 21s who can do that, who we can afford, get down to Cook's office for a brew and a chat.

Are you sure you know which one he is? Next match you go to you should take along a photograph of him so you can identify the right player. Being absolutely fair to you, I think, in some of his early games for us, he did look a bit dithery and indecisive, and slow to react to situations, but he can move fast once he's decided what needs doing.

Pace is all he has , the constant giving away of the ball and looking very uncomfortable with it at his feet at times was my worry
