In the Premier League, where the players are so far removed from the paying fan, it wouldn't have happened. The players would have been whisked off to a hotel for a low-key, private celebration.
Mindful that the club was on its backside not so long ago and staring down the barrel of National League North, we encouraged the players to go out and celebrate a remarkable season with the paying public, in our Town. Paul Cook is very big on player / fan interaction and a lot of people will remember last weekend for a long, long time (Mandy being the possible exception!).
Not only was it the correction decision for the football club, it was the correct decision to allow the Town to be part of those celebrations.
