Firstly, credit to Southend, they played some good possession football but lacked the final killer touch and faded in the last 15.Also credit to the Southend fans, a good following and made some noise and helped create an atmosphere and all stayed to applaud the team at the end.
Now us, another professional performance and I’m now starting to believe we will go up as champions. 4 out of the next 5 are away. We could be 20 points clear by our next home game. I’m sure I heard and saw the fat lady starting to sing as I walked to my car

different kind of win again today, thought we were a bit off it in possession but really good out of possesion, southend played well and were competitive but never really laid a glove on us, we took our chances well and we move on to the next one, nice to see clements back in a town shirt and he played well down that left side.

now for clarity's sake what is the deal with injuries this season? there was an incident in the 2nd half when williams needed treatment, he was then asked to leave the field and couldn't return for 30 seconds, some 10-15 mins later a southend player went down and needed treatment, but was not asked to leave the field of play, so is it certain types of injury or just inconsistent refereeing?

Don't know if it's true but I was told it was COVID and a nasty dose. Which would point to him looking lethargic

If that is the case, let's hope there are no long term/long COVID effects,as he is such an important player for us.He is the one I was most concerned about attracting interest in the January window.Best wishes,Liam.COYB

Three good goals against a decent side who never gave up, and all with Mandeville looking out of sorts, Jacobs looking like he was on a Sunday stroll. The back four were solid, both Naylor and Oldaker protected and created, while the pick of the attacking midfielders was Berry. Grigg lead the line well, but without getting much change from their centre backs. Dobra changed things when he came on and Joe Quigley must be the most prolific striker per minutes played in the whole world.
Not our usual fluid display, but I'll take 3 point however they come.

My overall impressions from the game where that Southend played some nice football but in the main were like us for most of last season in that they were pretty toothless up front. Also watching Dackers,he seemed more intent on putting Grimes off than winning the ball in the air,and Grimes was obviously watching the ball and winning it.Thought the whole back four were immense, and Bailey Clements did what I expected of him after the first nervy couple of minutes.Good all round performance.COYB

I think if the payer causing the injury is booked then the injured player does not have to leave the field

Don’t think we got out of 2nd gear until the substitutions. Southend were decent first half, anonymous in the second half.

Get a life instead of trying to score points. The difference today is that we started on the front foot and played positively from the start. Berry’s inclusion from the outset instead of being asked to do miracles in the last 10 minutes just proved this and what a fantastic goal. The play was chalk and cheese compared to the Woking game. Then again if it wasn’t for Williams goal-line stop it could have been a different story today. He had a blinder.
I’ve no axe to grind but you can’t seem to accept any differences of opinion sadly and bait anyone who dares
To be honest Grigg was poor today and should have been off sooner. As for Dobra his kick up the backside being sub did him good as he was unstoppable when he came on. So positive unlike the last few matches.

Oldaker was my motm today, thought Naylor was average by his usual high standards. How many seconds from Quigs coming on to him scoring. Inspired substitution Cookie 😀

You've beat me to it! The Quigley sub on 72 mins must have had him really coughing.

Given all the possession Southend had in the first half, I failed to see how they weren't going to score after the break. Then Cookie brought the Magician on.

It's been hard to nominate a MOTM for the past two games, but special mention for DJ. He's a player who has the ability to do a lot more than he does at times, but he was my MOTM today.

Agree Oldaker just seems to improve every game. Feel sorry for Will Grigg, runs his nuts off all game and leads the line well, then super Joe comes on and first touch, back of the net !!!

My only gripe today was Berry struggling after about 20 mins, ok he made a blistering start but was struggling to get his breath a couple of times late in the first half.

If he’s going to progress in the game he needs to up his fitness levels.

I thought Oldaker was fantastic again today. I’m a big Mike Jones fan and had reservations at him being left out for DJ but I’m certainly eating my words. Oldaker has, IMO, been excellent since he came back in and is going from strength to strength.

Williams has come back very strong and is in great form and I thought Sheckleford had a very good game today.

Just thought it worthy of a mention of three lads returning to the fold that haven’t been consistent starters but have acquitted themselves extremely well when given the opportunity.

I’d agree they were the 3 best players today….

i would happily take a point today. these are a good side with a good defensive record. there is no shame whatsoever picking a point up, keeping the total ticking over. need to keep it tight, not give away silly possession and make sure one of the two full backs sits whilst the other goes forward. much like Altringham, these are not to be sniffed at.

Are they a good side? Quite a few on here were talking them up. They were 27 points behind us before today if we give them their 10 points back. Why suggest a draw is a good result? First half they played it long most of the time. And had a couple of sniffs at goal. 2nd half they tried to play a lot down the left. They struggled to defend against us. They couldn’t work Jacobs out for 30 minutes. We don’t need to suggest giving points to any team in this league home or away.

Altrincham and Southend by far the best two sides we have seen here this season. Fair play to the Southend fans, they were outstanding today. Wishing them good luck for the rest of the season. they deserve it with fans like that. Proper club and proper support. Great to see.
