Agree with this sentiment.
One only has to look at past winners to realise it’s not for us- I’d be embarrassed to respond to a question - what have your team won? The FA Trophy, as won by teams of the calibre of Bishops Stortford, Canvey Island, Kingstonian, Hednesford, Burscough and Grays Athletic.

Wouldn’t bother me; we’ll never erase the fact we have spent so long in non-league. That’s the indelible stain, not winning a non league trophy; seems an odd way to think to me.

Sadly those notions of respect have long passed. Personally I'd have been happy if Watford had fielded a weak team against us and I'm sure Welling were quite happy to see what was in front of them.

I don't hold with this idea the Trophy is a worthless competition. If you are non-league then it should have a reasonable status but I see why we did it. On a personal level I'm relieved, I don't really want to visit Wembley ever again

Bet you change your tune if we're in the play-off final next season.

I’d go, but I wouldn’t look forward to it. Might have a different attitude for the FA Cup

Given we only took about 80-100 fans there’s not a suprise there’s a lack of detail about the game. There’s probably only a handful on here who actually went

The team has been playing at Step 7 of the NL pyramid and has given a half decent step 2 side a game by the sounds of it so make of that what you will

It’s not really disrespectful to the fans, those who did go went off their own back and knew what sort of side we were sending as Cook had said a couple of times in the week that the youth team would go. I suspect the majority who did go, went to take the rare opportunity of ticking off a ground we haven’t played at before. Even the lure of that wasn’t enough for me though

You have obviously assumed I was only talking about CFC fans, when I just referred to fans.
If I was from Welling and paid my money I might have wanted to see a better quality opposition.
Going home after the win might have evoked the comment that they were only playing a bunch of youths.

No, the Welling fans I spoke weren't bothered in the slightest about us putting a weakened side out. The weaker the better being their desire. They were just desperate for a win not having seen one for over 2 months apparently (not checked).

If I was a welling fan I’d rather turn over some kids and progress to the next round, than be turfed out the cup. They’re through and that’s all that surely matters.
We weren’t the only NL side to seemingly throw their tie yesterday - Aldershot got done for 6, Dorking 5, Oldham beaten at home. The very fact the tournament takes prescident over league games means it’s always going to be seen as a hindrance to sides with plenty to play for in the league.

Interesting at least two of those teams you mentioned put out strong sides. There’s a big difference in resting some players and as you put it ‘throw their tie’. I guess they took a risk and caught a cold.

May I refer you to my second sentence M’Lud….in which I said “ might “, not “ would “.
I wonder if any Welling fans heard who they were likely to be playing against and decided not to go, ergo you could only speak to those who still went.

452 per their OS match report. Well below league attendances (800s, 900s, 2000 for Dartford on Boxing Day).

I’m sure there was the best part of a thousand for run of the mill Doc Martins league game when I went years. I guess cup fever failed to hit Welling too.

Their OS didn’t bother having a report for their home tie in the previous round v Brockley

Everyone has the right to their own opinion, and it wouldn't have really bothered me if Boot, and Grimes, plus anyone else who needed minutes had played. I also see why they didn't. All most of us want this season, is promotion from the bowels of this awful league, and doing it in style.
We are way too good for this league,we weren't,but we are now. I think Cook has targeted players he wants to bring in for next season already, and others will move on. A great time to support Town, that's for sure, so am I bothered about a cup, nope, I want automatic promotion from this cesspit of a league.

It’s a trophy - players (all sports performers) measure their success on their silverware.
To not give any competition the full respect is bad.
Look at the (rightful) dogs abuse Prem teams get when sending weak teams in FA and Caraboa Cups?

Everyone knows that if you have one chance at promotion, and potentially saving the club then the best way to do that is to play Tuesday Saturday Tuesday Saturday, surely it keeps the players fresh and ready to go

All this every Saturday nonsense, well, they’ll be off the ball and more likely to pick up injuries

A few positives :-

A chance of visiting (ticking off) a ground that wouldn't normally appear on the radar

Being able to stand on what could be described as quintessential terracing of the 40s (that's a guess) didn't see Benno to cofirm!!

Being able to amble around the ground, at leisure and have a friendly chat/banter with locals.

Enjoying some excellent ale in the "Door Hinge" pre match and chat/banter etc. as the previous sentence.

Finally getting the result we wanted, experience for the kids and knowing we don't have to rearrange the Ebbsfleet match when the next round is scheduled, plus the big bonus no knocks bookings etc.

PS and the added bonus, of folk purporting to know what they are on about but making absolute tits of themselves trying to criticise folk who saw the bigger picture

Benno turned the game down and went to watch Mrs Doubtfire the musical instead !!

Perhaps it is. So let's have a 23 weeks season, rather than a 39 weeks season. Or would you prefer divisions of 40 teams?

About 750 is their average this season, inflated by a couple of big attendances. Quite a few attendances circa 500 a well. Maybe if they suspected we’d take a strong team they’d of got a few more. Using the attendances to diss a competition is a bit daft. Check out the FA Cup/League Cup attendances to see how cup fever grips most clubs in the early/mid rounds, even with cheap tickets. We were a massive exception with our FA Cup games this year.
