A chance of visiting (ticking off) a ground that wouldn't normally appear on the radar
Being able to stand on what could be described as quintessential terracing of the 40s (that's a guess) didn't see Benno to cofirm!!
Being able to amble around the ground, at leisure and have a friendly chat/banter with locals.
Enjoying some excellent ale in the "Door Hinge" pre match and chat/banter etc. as the previous sentence.
Finally getting the result we wanted, experience for the kids and knowing we don't have to rearrange the Ebbsfleet match when the next round is scheduled, plus the big bonus no knocks bookings etc.
PS and the added bonus, of folk purporting to know what they are on about but making absolute tits of themselves trying to criticise folk who saw the bigger picture
Yorkshire is Yorkshire
Never the twain shall meet.

Glad we’re out, and hopefully never have to play a match in the competition again in our history.
Correct decision from Mr Cook.
A sensible post.....
Where is the real Brittas, and what have you done with him... ?

Nail on head,as you say 'we all have our favourites' and you name three. The thing is on here that the three you mention, unbelievably, have their detractors and some even post abuse,so my point is whichever 11 are played some will not be happy.

Sensible? It’s the usual Brittas post. He “imagines Bromley will catch us” and Oldham ( his favourites along with York, Woking and Southend to challenge us. ) to beat us in the playoffs. He’s amusing but never sensible. He doesn’t go to games. Probably posts on multiple club boards.

The Club didn't choose the team. Cookie did.
I'd have loved to have won the FA Trophy. However, history tells us how hard it is to do. Town itself has never been able to win a minor trophy whilst winning promotion. When was the last time a team won the NL and the FA Trophy in the sane season?
We have a tough run in, with 7 of our remaining 10 away fixtures against teams in the top 13. We've lost 3 of the 5 already played.
Winning the FAT would mean 4 additional fixtures for our squad, and midweek ones at that. Meaning less rest and recovery from injuries.
4 more games in which to pick up suspensions from league games. The cold months, January and February, are notorious for picking up knocks and strains. Why increase the chances of doing so?
The Club simply has to be promoted this season. The effects of not doing so, would
Likely see Town in freefall. Why do anything to jeopardise that, at this pivotal stage of the season.?
Yesterday was a great experience in itself for the young men, and for Neil and his support staff. See how they all cope going away to a Tier 6 team. What an honour for all of them, representing Chesterfield FC.
All things weighed up, I think Cookie made the right call. He looked at the bigger picture, not just yesterday's away tie in the FA Trophy.

Good post. I am sure most of us realise that. It is an unecessary game that carried a risk we do not need to take. Also it gives our lads a chance to show what they can do, and gives them a taste of what it is going to be like to be a professional footballer, so a win win for me. Only the glory hunters would be upset at Cookies decision.

Agree with this sentiment.
One only has to look at past winners to realise it’s not for us- I’d be embarrassed to respond to a question - what have your team won? The FA Trophy, as won by teams of the calibre of Bishops Stortford, Canvey Island, Kingstonian, Hednesford, Burscough and Grays Athletic.

That's where I am at. I was embarrassed that the club was put into this position and it's not an exaggeration to say it's cast a black shadow across my life ever since. It's forever in my mind that we are a 'non-league club/town'. The second this horrible time ends will a moment for joy and rejoice.

I agree but it would have been helpful to learn which of the lads played well and look promising rather than how much some posters won by betting against the team they support! The former would have been interesting, the latter….ah well.

However, I thought it was an embarrassment not having one squad player, and disrespectful to both to the opposition and any fans who attended.
The principal aim is promotion but I would have thought we might have a found a few senior players from the list available.

Wycombe in 1993 were the last ones. only 3 teams have done the conference & Trophy Double, Colchester did it the year before Wycombe and Wealdstone won the Conference and Trophy in 1985.

Your question about when was the last time a team won the NL and FA Trophy in the same season got me thinking what a good question that would be for a football quiz so I did a little research into it. What it came up with was,
Wycombe Wanderers were the last team to achieve this in 1993,
Colchester United achieved it the year before in 1992,
Wealdstone F.C. were the first to achieve it in 1985.
So you're correct in what you say that history shows just how hard it is to do but I'm sure we could have more than likely won this pointless trophy had we really wanted to and more than likely joined those other three clubs in the history books as none league double winners but as you say, I think Cookie made the right call.

Given we only took about 80-100 fans there’s not a suprise there’s a lack of detail about the game. There’s probably only a handful on here who actually went
The team has been playing at Step 7 of the NL pyramid and has given a half decent step 2 side a game by the sounds of it so make of that what you will

It’s not really disrespectful to the fans, those who did go went off their own back and knew what sort of side we were sending as Cook had said a couple of times in the week that the youth team would go. I suspect the majority who did go, went to take the rare opportunity of ticking off a ground we haven’t played at before. Even the lure of that wasn’t enough for me though

Sadly those notions of respect have long passed. Personally I’d have been happy if Watford had fielded a weak team against us and I’m sure Welling were quite happy to see what was in front of them.
I don’t hold with this idea the Trophy is a worthless competition. If you are non-league then it should have a reasonable status but I see why we did it. On a personal level I’m relieved, I don’t really want to visit Wembley ever again
