Is that rate? They are playing a centre back regularly up front? Like not as a last 10 minute throw of the dice in pure desperation but as an actual starter?

I heard that too, but I didn't believe it. Caldwell likes to be in the news that's for sure.

Happens with success on occasions, eg Chris Sutton, John Charles. Mind if Caldwell has come up with such a change, you can guarantee it won’t work.

I don't wish ill on Gary, just thankful we are now in a position that we have an unbelievable set up and management team & squad now.
But how does a consistent Jonah like Caldwell get in the hot seat at a club?
I can't be bothered to work it out but what is Caldwell's overall win rate in his managerial career?

Yes, Cheick Diabate.
These go to eleven.

On the Exeter forum I think a Partick fan said his win ratio was skewed higher because they defeated a couple of much lesser teams in a cup competitions whilst he was there.
East stand second class citizen.

I think our own Albert Phelan played up front, but only in a friendly.
Knowing Caldwell he's probably signed Warwick Davis, or Wee Jimmy Krankie as stand in centre back

Didn't you once play up front in a league game? missed a sitter at the Kop end, maybe.

Back in the mists of time I'm sure we had a centre half called Roy Poole who was drafted in as centre forward, in the days before strikers. He scored all the goals in a 4-0 win, but I've forgotten who against. We all thought he was going on to play for England.
He never scored again and was soon back in defence.

Was thinking the same. Colchester 61/2.

I remember Dave Blakey being played as an `emergency centre forward' at Saltergate sometime back in the sixties and scoring a couple, but can't recall who it was against....anyone remember?

I remember John Osborne getting injured and playing up front at Doncaster.

I think I remember John Duncan throwing Darren Carr up top as a late sub - think he scored the equaliser, can't remember who against

You're right, I did 😁. It's a goalkeepers nightmare, putting the ball in the onion bag, although a few have done it including our own Mr CFC or Jim Brown if that terminology makes you think of walking football 😆.

I think that's right Warfey. Albert was one of the best full backs never to play in the higher two leagues, a shame really. One of my all time favourites along with my namesake.

Dave Blakey would have headed the goalie into the net if he'd got the ball, he took no prisoners.

He played up front in a Saltergate game too. It was not a success!

Saw John Osborne play right wing for us once if I recall correctly.
God I hate this league.

Albert Holmes. What a player. His sliding tackles were something else! I think his son Paul played against us for Torquay if I remember correctly.
I seem to remember John Duncan I think it was playing Les Hunter up top as an experiment one game in the 80's. I could be wrong.
