If we do go up, I could well see Morsy coming in to replace Jones next season.

We’ll see.

He'll get many offers but to put it baldly he's OOC, approaching veteran status, and never quite been Premiership quality. One can only dream.

He has publicly said he’d like to come back here later in his career and whilst Cook is at the helm we’ve certainly got our best chance of him doing so. As also mentioned though I didn’t expect Ipswich to be flying so high and nobody could see him turning down a crack at the prem for us!

Morsys contract runs out at the end of this season, if Ipswich go up they may not offer him a new contract so he wouldn’t get a crack at the Prem. why not have a 3 year contract with us, probably won’t happen but didn’t expect us to sign Naylor, Grigg and Jacobs.

And this time last year you thought we would have Grigg, Colclough, Naylor and Jacobs

I have a similar feeling about Morsy too

True words.

But, please let us concentrate on the here and now. We are fighting for a place back in the EFL and there remains a long way to go. Ipswich are battling for a place back in the PL and there remains a long way to go. They succeed and we fail and the gap widens. We succeed and they fail and the gap becomes narrower. That's about where we are at with any Morsy speculation.

Returning to our current needs, and as things stand at present, I think the ony positions we can improve on within what we already have is cover at LCB and, dare I say it, a younger more mobile replacement for Jones who will actually have a shot at goal at some point in a season. I do wonder if one of the reasons that Jones has picked up so many bookings this season is because he's lost an extra half yard of pace.

Beyond that, unless Cook thinks he can let one out to bring in an improvement I would not be too bothered about changing things at all as, if necessary, we can bring in cover for injuries at any time upto and including most of March. If it isn't broken why try to mend it?

Jones has often taken a booking for the team to break down counter-attacks. He made a couple of wayward passes yesterday but when you have a player whose performances are impeccable you always take notice when the odd error creeps in. Hardly ever takes a chance with his passes which is his great strength I think when the temptation is there to potentially lose possession. I do recall a few shots on target this season which have been blocked but there’s still time for the memorable first one to hit the net…

Let's hope so. Nobody can fault his commitment but have I been told correctly that he's now picked up his 10th booking and is looking at a 2 match suspension after already serving a one match suspension for 5 bookings?

I read that also, but Soccerbase is showing him on 9 yellows, and he needs 10 for another suspension. No doubt someone will post the actual facts.

Flashscore has him down as 8 league cards and 1 Cup card. Looking at his appearances this season, we have failed to win the last 3 games he hasn't played in. We have won in every game he has had a part in (13 from 13). Quire remarkable how inspirational he is

We've played 18 league games and only dropped points in 3 of them and we have on 2 cup games as well.

So, whilst we have won all 13 games he has played a part in there remains 4 more games we've won when he hasn't played. No doubt, there are certain players, like Grimes, Naylor & Mandeville for instance, that have played a part in more wins than Jones this season.

There's no doubting Jones's contribution though and we all know he gives his all in every game he plays.

Mike Jones does the simple things very well, and he helps and encourages those around him. He's trusted by the manager to look after the space in front of the back four. How many times has he got us out of trouble with a well timed tackle, or a goal saving block. He's playing on his experience, because his pace will be yard off what it once was.
I'd give him another contract now, because he's that good.

He’s experienced enough when to take a yellow during a transition

I think you’re underestimating his pace. I’m not saying he’s rapid but I don’t think I’ve seen a midfielder go past him. The way he reads the game massively helps. More often than not he’s already got his body in front of the man and ball before the player is even able to attempt to go past him. He’s mr reliable. 7.5/10 every single week.

Yep. He's in there to be in the right place at the right time defensively, but wor I like about him is that he's almost never caught in possession. It's either a simple pass to a play maker or a quick turn towards his own goal to give himself time and space. Sometimes frustrating but very simple and effective. Alot Allott.

It wouldn’t surprise me if one or two of the current squad are told ‘National League is your level’ if we get promoted and are replaced with more L1/L2 standard players

I suppose the issue there is if they are under contract it makes it a bit more difficult to move them on as you are needing someone to take them on otherwise we are paying folk off again that we could really do with moving on from.
