Think it was a night match not long after a "bit of a do" with Port Vale fans in the Saltergate Club resulting in anyone from the away club not being allowed into the club. After the game0 I was at the bar when 5 PNE players came in and were told to leave. I interjected with would you 'bar' Bobby Charlton if he came in. I was met with a terse reply. Myself and 2 others (S.A. rip) followed them out and offered to get them some ale which we did (they paid we weren't that generous) The steward went 'ape' when he realised what we had done and promptly barred the 3 of us only to reinstate us when 20 or so regulars promptly declared that they would bar themselves.

Went to the Senior Citizens lunch when his brother Tommy was guest speaker, he said what a close knit Family they were, and that Bobby was mum's favourite. Surely he has to be England fans all time favourite. He was a great man on and off the pitch. RIP Bobby.
