In this case it’s more complicated as even though he is out of contract, Solihull offered him a new one, so are due a fee agreed at tribunal. We may have agreed to do a deal with them for a fee without that going to tribunal court. Thus even though he is out of contract it is more similar to a traditional transfer, where there is an agreement made between clubs. The reason for the delay could be anything from his contract to officially expire, to give time for Solihull to sign a replacement, or just because we want to announce it this way for lols.

on deadline day in the 79/80 season I am sure from memory we were the biggest spending club in all the 4 divisions of the football league

It's a forum for discussions. If people hear something and want to discuss it then why should they be accused of being "look at me"?
