Repeat, not excited by this, we need quality now, not in 5 years.

Don’t get your issue here.He may or may not make it, but as we don’t have a youth policy this kind of signing is our best hope of developing a player ourselves.
Of course it won’t take 5 years to see if he can succeed or not. 18 months will be plenty sufficient. At very little cost I’d imagine.

We have to take a gamble on signings like this, we’re not making a profit, I for one am pleased that we’re taking a chance on players from further down the pyramid.

I'm pretty sure he might have played against one of my sides a few years back for handsworth, maybe u21 or u18, the name sounds familiar.

Main issue is the 'I'm excited by this', 'cracking signing' comments, based on what exactly?

Agree we need players we can develop but getting excited by this lad"s signing seems OTT to me.

I think the excitement comes from the fact that the club are finally back thinking long term. For the past 8 years we’ve had a ridiculous short term approach in regards to pretty much all area of our club, and it’s refreshing to see a change in strategy. We almost lost CFC 3 years ago, so for the majority of Town fans, the security of our club for the next generation is far more important than instant success. The only way to break even in football and offer the financial security we need, is to sign and develop young players then sell for a fee. Perhaps this could be the start of a new recruitment process and I’m on board with that.

Well said. It’s hardly like some of our exciting, marquee signings have tore it up for us. There’s plenty of gems in the NL pyramid, let’s hope we’ve found one

Same. Think Dan Gardner, Ollie Banks etc. both signed by Cook from non league when we were in the EFL.

Young Sam Clucas? Wasn't he playing in NL for Mansfield when we signed him?

Found myself looking at Sligo yesterday to see if they had the next Eoin Doyle going spare. Could be wrong but with the connections Cookie and Co have, I reckon they'll be casting the net much wider than NL and find us some exciting players this summer.

No, Mansfield got promoted back into the FL in 2013, Clucas played for them 2013/2014 before signing for us.

I very much doubt that Town will sign another "Ryan Colclough" for you, without having first sold Mandy and/or Mando.

Are we assuming he has been signed for the future and not now? Its not like he's come from way down the pyramid or from a few divisions below as a raw youngster potentially a bit like Jez was...he was a regular, scoring goals, in a team that made the playoffs in the division below. He's been looked at by numerous league clubs by all accounts. There is a good chance he is going to have an impact in the first team from the start.

More likely see Rowe, Asante and Whelan out of the door before we see decent signings.

I'm expecting a bid for Dobra.

9 goals in 14 games, 3 out of 3 penalties scored. Only 22, someone like that could be a very nice addition for now and the future

This.
But also, nobody is more committed to working to a budget than Cook. He's said it in public 'cos I heard him, though I can't remember when.

So, if he can do business that improves the budget I expect he'll just get on with it whilst keeping Crooty informed. Vikky Verka, if he needs a bit of support from the Board he will explain the risk and await an answer.

Stirring it here, I think an isolated Thacker stood up to Rowe and caused acrimony - and well done to him.
Get it on, bang the gong , get it on

I think it's a no brainier signing, you have a lad who is going to listen learn and improve has not cost anything and is local, the way he turned inside for his goal reminded me of Tony Lormer for some reason.

He wouldn't cost much either. Sligo need the money. Two former players of theirs (Aidan Keena and Ed McGinty) play in L1.

Their goalkeeper Luke McNicholas might also be worth a look, we cannot afford to have liabilities in goal if promotion is the aim.

I regularly listen to the Sligo games on Oceanfm.ie and am aware they have some fairly promising players.
