There are flare players and there is a sustained effort by the side as a whole to score quickly like England did. Both innings over 6/7 runs an over the whole innings that left time in the game then the tempting declaration.

Yeh pretty much, had we declared on a score they knew they couldnt chase it would have been a nightmare trying to shift batsman happy to block out.

so test 2, only watched on the highlights, big question for those who know better than me, jack leach, is he really this level?

Yes, best spinner available at present...we're not blessed in the department as the real best spinners we've got don't want to play tests in Adil Rashid and Moen Ali. We need to find a good mystery spinner that wants to play tests but we've never really had one.

At Hundall CC we're trying to collate all of our history. Players/Matches etc

Has anybody got any old scorebooks (pre play-cricket) we could have a look through for games involving Hundall?

In the latest England win against Ireland, Ben Stokes is the first Test Captain in the history of the game to have won a game without batting, bowling or keeping wicket.

Don’t trust any scorebooks from Clarevoyant as they are probably doctored

Not at all, it was more the case that opposing batsmen never got the chance to use the "red ink". Did they!!!

It's definately a "was it"

80s through 90s Saltergate morphing into Wingerworth SCC at the turn of the century

The only times we headed out towards deedahland was for the occasional sortee with Dronfield Woodhouse. Whereby the most demanding task to befall the skip was dragging the game out to opening time (5.30/6pm).

We've played Wingerworth SCC before in the '60s. We've also played DWCC on plenty of occasions, so surprising that our paths wouldn't have crossed again

No the Wingerworth you refer were a different animal and folded. We moved to Deerpark on there demise as Saltergate and after a couple of years changed our name yo Wingerworth S(Saltergate)CC in an attempt to attract locals

Was there on Saturday. I’ve got tickets for days one and three at Headingley as well.

I was raging about the declaration on Friday as Root was smashing it to all corners. Much to my wife's chagrin I have moaned about the stupidity for 4 days...which is now vindicated!

Baz ball has it's place but that was a urine-poor decision, not just with hind-sight but at the time! Sometime a traditional common sense approach wins games too.

This is Australia we are p!aying ffs!

Fully agree. Stokes and Baz need to understand that against the Aussies you dont declare on first innings unless you have at least 450 on the board. Big mistake.

We bowled 20-odd no balls, that cost us more than the declaration.

The declaration wasn’t a bad idea….no balls and various missed chances were more of an issue. Yes root was in but we were 8 down with one tailender in and one more to come. It could very easily have been innings done within a couple of balls anyway.
