Am I the only one to believe Brazil to be generally overrated over the years and the media love in with them unwarranted?

Yes they had a great side in 1970, one of the greatest of all time, and also had huge success before that, but since???

In 74 they were awful. In 82 they had perhaps their last truly great team but didn't get to the final.
They won it in 94 with an ordinary side, winning perhaps the worst final ever on penalties.
They won it again in 2002 with a good but not truly great team.

And since??? They were thoroughly humiliated in their own back yard in 2014.
They have had some decent players this century such as Kaka, Ronaldinho and Rivaldo. But I always though fat Ronaldo was overrated as was Roberto Carlos, although I probably never saw the best of them.
What Brazil usually do have, rather like Germany, and unlike England, is the ability to go deep in the competition even when they don't have a great team or play that well.
However, despite their past successes ultimately they have been no better or more successful over the past fifty years than Germany, France, Italy or Argentina and the incessant media worship of them seems unwarranted.

The only point I'd disagree on is the 1982 side. Yes, they didn't reach the final, but that team was magnificent.

They were phenomenal, not sure how they didn’t win it

Yes I said they were probably their last truly great team and better than the teams they had which subsequently did win it.

The Italians had a game plan to neutralise Zico & Socrates, they got Gentile to kick Zico really hard! It's where Jamey Osbourne gets it from for Solihull.....

I’ll stick my neck out here and say that any team who has Richarlison as one of the main strikers ain’t winning the World Cup.

Hmm…two goals tonight including a decent overhead kick.

Like I said, no team with Richarlison as a main striker will win the World Cup. Imho

The Russian sympathisers have been poor though.

To put Ronaldinho in the decent category is not good. He was pure class.
I don't understand how Neymar can be spoke about as the golden boy for this generation cos all he does is role around on the floor, if anybody runs past him he dives.
I don't enjoy watching Brazil play and reckon they'll come unstuck when they go up against a team that don't show any fear of them.
Life goes on. Whatever happens.

I have to disagree ref Ronaldo. For me, he was one of the best forwards of all time. Kaka was incredible for Milan; truly sublime, as was Ronaldinho. Could anyone hit a dead ball like Roberto Carlos could? A flying wingback that terrorised opposition defenders. Was a golden era for Italian football.

Every Sunday, I used to watch Football Italia, and if Inter were playing, Ronaldo was always immense. Inter v Milan derby was incredible.

I pretty much nicked everything I could from watching 90s Italian football, to make me a better player and then when I was coaching.
