Shadow home secretary Yvette Cooper told the BBC's Laura Kuenssberg programme: "What you've got to do is overhaul the whole system and take stronger action to prevent the dangerous boats crossing the Channel that are putting lives at risk.

She described condition at Manston as "appalling, with diphtheria outbreaks".

Ms Cooper said delays in processing arrivals had "created huge backlogs".

"We need a new agreement in place with France around the Channel crossings, and we need a significant increase in the activities of the National Crime Agency because we've got a proliferation of criminal activities in the Channel that has increased in the couple of years."

I'm now waiting for the usual suspects to cancel Yvette and label her as a racist bigot....

The vast majority of those making it to these shores are Albanians, they arnt seeking refuge from war or poverty, they’re illegal immigrants.
It would be nice to take notice of working class folk having to live in this hell hole rather than the virtual signalling do gooders who live 100s of miles away.

I'm sure the woman who had the young immigrant that burst into her house, asking her to take him to Manchester and demanding to use her mobile, was thinking just the same ....

Whether or not the sanctimonious, virtue signalling, useful idiot, flake brigade want to acknowledge it, this is a national crisis that needs urgent attention.

I'm glad Yvette has spoken out, instead of allowing certain folk to say all immigrants are welcome, and that anyone who challenges this is a heartless racist.

I got a great insight into this when I visited.
The 'vast majority' are able men who are seeking refuge from corruption, the scale of which is hard to understand in the UK. The corruption results in them being unable to earn a living and support a family in spite of working very long hours.

Albania is awaiting the result of it's application to join the EU. Corruption is the single biggest issue that has to be resolved beforehand.

As we were being driven the 44 kilometres from airport to hotel, the taxi driver gave us a running commentary on all the buildings that had been built illegally. There were dozens, a couple of them luxurious hotels and casinos. It was quite astonishing.
Get it on, bang the gong , get it on

On a day when vulnerable human beings are intentionally petrol bombed, the usual suspects choose to peddle predictably petty prejudice.

It's another disturbing glimpse into pitiably troubled minds...

So one (sad) topic cancels out another? Or is not allowed because the original poster implied a Labour mp might be open to criticism?

Your deflections are becoming ever more often.

Who are the vulnerable human beings mate? Are they the growing numbers of young Eastern European men illegally arriving here to join the drug and organised crime gangs?
I’d prefer to focus on the vulnerable people who may well fall prey to the drugs and illegal activities that many of these young men may well be arriving here to be involved in.
Anybody who comes here to escape war, torture or famine should be helped but it’s increasingly clear that many of those arriving here simply aren’t from those groups.

No one should fear being petrol bombed.

But I think we don’t stop discussions because of outside other events.

Maybe came across wrongly but I used the word vulnerable to describe why those people find themselves coming here.

Is this another of your tongue-in-cheek prods?

Y'know, like the one where you recently piggy-backed 'Mr M's' random Tom Watson reference?

I hope so, as a simple trip to this topic's first page shows he was far less concerned when Boris the Liar dismissed investigations into establishment paedophillia as "spaffing money". Or that same Bozo's unapologetic accusation SKS was somehow complicit in Saville escaping justice.

Unless your demands for balance are strangely selective, of course.

And please, we both know why this 'Misnomer' character quoted Yvette Cooper; it was another goad. Another taunt. Another gateway to the malice and malevolence peppering this and a disturbing number of other threads. As so predictably proven by his subsequent outburst.

Please don't offer it even the hint of legitimacy.

Thanks for stating no one deserves petrol bombing, though. No one. Not even the Albanians who've become the latest villains the Mail-esque media want everyone to hate to deflect (that word again) from the governments they've repeatedly championed delivering an immigration shambles. The 'take back control of our borders' Brexit they demanded yet again proving a scam. The real austerity driven reasons people's living standards have plummeted.

I know 'Mr M'. I know he's a good guy. Infact we shared a friendly pre-match pint only last weekend. So I also know he didn't mean to infer it's somehow understandable to chuck Molotov Cocktails if the targets are Albanian. Or any other asylum seeker deemed unwelcome by the usual suspects. Especially as we've yet to discover details surrounding yesterday's tragic events.

But anyway, I'm gonna bow out of an exchange that's long since turned into a game of bigots bingo. After all, I'd hate to 'deflect' from someone shouting house during the next anti immigrant rant..

By that, you mean Yvette Cooper? She said it, word for word....it's not Farrage or Tommy Robinson, nor is it the Mailesque right-wing media; it's from a very left leaning Labour shadow Home Secretary.

I'm sure she'd appreciate your psychoanalysis of her.... I'm sure just like the great John Duncan did when you told him where he was 'going wrong' (your words) 😂😂😂😂 fk me, what a bellend.

Still, I shouldn't be remotely surprised. Someone who, with ONLY the say-so of her racist, oppressive, Taliban supporting solicitor (when all of the ACTUAL evidence points to the antithesis); insists that Begum was 'groomed', and anyone who doesn't agree is a racist bigot.

Same with Rafiq....zero evidence; just his say-so. A guy of extremely questionable character.

Worst still, you show absolutely no sympathy for the Townsfolk of Dover or the woman who was subjected to an illegal immigrant, casually walking into her house and asking her to take him to Manchester. She was probably scared to death.

Yet, you claim others have 'pitiably troubled minds'.

No not this one. Good to see you answer one for a change. Though I guess it wasn’t difficult.

Y’know like one I started and he replied to? So no I didn’t read page 1. Life is too short duck.

My demands for balance are…..just that. I don’t have a set agenda for all scenarios

I offered it no legitimacy.

You’re welcome.

Fair enough. Not really relevant but I’m sure it was lovely.

Said much to your local imam about the treatment of women in Iran; the oppression, the physical assaults, the rapes? Put anything on social media in support of them? No? Thought not.....

You are weak and pathetic, and you know it. Similar to the grooming gangs of Rotherham, Rochdale, etc...what did you say? 'There's no connection to them being Muslim'....good work 👍🏻

That’s a new low level on the bar isn’t it. Albania has applied for EU membership and has candidate status. This is pure economic migration.

My country is corrupt, can I come to yours and have a job and accommodation please?

I should have gone to the Norway a couple of years ago and said my corrupt government has handed out billions in dodgy PPE contracts

Have you actually met any of the asylum seekers / refugees (or service users as they are called once processed)? Do you know what sort of people they are?

I think the idea is that they are coming here to achieve a place of safety, whatever it is they are fleeing from.

Many are professionals who have paid good money to travel here, and have left behind homes, family, everything in the hope of starting a new life somewhere safer. The media love to promote the idea that they are all young single men who come here to cause trouble - but many cant afford to bring all of their family (its an expensive journey) so come here to get started in a new life to then bring family to join them.

To be fair most are much better behaved than your average drunk up Brit on a weekend away....

Very true Ian

Similar to the Windrush generation. Many left their families to travel and work and eventually earn enough to bring the families over.
