We might have let Miller go but I reckon we also need to let Madri go. Not won a game since they started serving that on the concourse.

listening between the lines on cooks latest interview (if you know what i mean) i think tom whelan will be the next one out the door.

the interview is a clear indication of long term thinking, cook talks about not just keep signing players but building something, talks about the need and desire for short term success but accepting that real success is built over the long term... do we read that as he recognises that wrexham are just a club beyond and if we gain promotion this season against them it's a bonus? more realistically its play offs this season and keep strengthening/building to the point where we are truly favourites to win this league...

Don’t think cook would ever have that give up mentality

I don't see it at all as if Cook's given up on automatic promotion this season. At such an early stage in the season I'd be very disappointed if he had. I wouldn't think Notts County are prepared to stand back and handover the mantel to Wrexham either.

No, I understand where Cook appears to be coming from. He has players who have performed well within his formation and he prefers not to have to look for replacements for them at the end of the season. He has other experience players that are struggling to get anywhere near cementing a first team place and them moving on could be the best for both parties. Then he has young squad players who can be improved to a level where they are looking to break into the team.

However, clearly the team, itself, can be improved and the sooner space is made in the budget then steps can be taken to bring players in to improve that starting eleven.

I think his long term strategy is for a smaller squad but with a spattering of more 2 grand a week (plus) players like Banks and Kabby in key positions, all done within the same budget. That, and a couple of oustanding young prospects pushing for a place.

I'd trust Cook's judgement on which members of the current squad want to share that desire to push on to the standard. King, Dobra, Clarke, maybe even Williams if the penny drops, and (fingers crossed) Akinola?

For all other positions, we are luckily able to compete for 99% of the best players in the NL.
Get it on, bang the gong , get it on

What is this obsession with Wrexham smashing this division? Let’s hope the players don’t have the same defeatist attitude as some on here. They’ve lost 2 games already. They clearly have frailties , imagine if we’d won a game at home but conceded 5. There’d be meltdowns. Don’t forget they had money last season and got dîcked in the playoffs. They are well backed no doubt but it doesn’t guarantee anything and with that sort of backing comes pressure from every angle. They are lower league footballers not World Cup winners and they will have a sticky patch like every other top end club in this division.

I can't see him thinking that Wrexham are a club ahead after we played them off the park and won.
I see it more as he knows he's got a project and not just a job, he's doing what we've been crying out for which is putting the long-term future of the club first instead of just making signings for a quick fix.
Personally, I'm not overly bothered if we don't get promoted this season because I know that we are now in a safer position with the people in the big seats of the club than we have been for many a year. Yes, I want to go back into the football league but if it means we have to wait until next season before we do it then so be it because with Cooky in charge I get the feeling that he's thinking about building a squad that will not only entertain us but will grow together and be capable of holding its own in league one.
Plus the fact that this league has now got bigger teams in it than league two, refs are still w**k though.
Life goes on. Whatever happens.

good response and agree with what you say in there, i believe there is an anxiety about getting promoted and sure we all want it as soon as we can but like cook says "it will happen when it happens", we all know how tough this league is to get out of and this season may be ours but it may not, what we have to do as you say is build for the long term, with all the right pieces in place across the club, i'm confident that under cook we'll gain promotion from this league and when we do i think we'll see back to back promotions.
