Time for Bailey Clements to get his chance ?

I don’t think so. Horton has been excellent since signing and I don’t think a couple of mistakes warrant him being dropped. Give him the chance to go out and put in a big performance against Barnet.

So how does Clements get his chance? Horton had a poor game.

He was having a poor game long before his mistake - I was calling for him to be subbed long before he messed up. That doesn't mean he's a bad player but he was well below par yesterday.

Watching it on bt ,he's commanding enough and not to blame for notts two goals, Fitzsimmons stays number 1 ,covolan might be better, but he's no good getting sent off afew times

His commanding-ness isn't the issue, he can't pass the ball short.

Weve got lots of players can't make the squad yet Maguire, a player transfer listed and unwanted by other clubs, is on the bench. If Clements had been on bench I'd have subbed Horton immediately after their 1st goal.

Indeed. Just trying to understand the referee. The drop ball should have been ours absolutely.

From memory, I think Phil on 1866 said that the ball had been returned by them, to Williams. Prior to that he had pointed out that the ref had made the wrong decision giving a drop ball.

He's quality but still a kid. Four high tempo games in two weeks where he's worked his socks off may be too much and we saw a tired Brandon today.
Time for young Clements to step up to the plate and give Brandon a rest. What's the point in having two good players for every position if you're not going to play them?

Notts were quite happy for it to restart with the throw in. Williams had it and was ready to throw it in before the referee interjected.

Ha, ok. Not seen it yet.
What did Notts do with the ball when it was dropped, uncontested?

Struggling to understand some of the stuff on here.

We're not Wrexham. PC an't spent mega millions. Most of his recruits are either youngsters, from lower levels, or both.

So folk shun't expect a stroll to promotion.

Horton's been a revelation but had an ordinary game yest'di. That happens to even the most experienced Premier League players. Could Williams have done better with the second? Maybe, but he too has been outstanding otherwise.

On the other hand let's focus on the 'new' Quigley. Non stop work rate closing down and creating. As seen with our first. Asante's back to his best, too. Meaning there's no clamour for Tshimanga or Clark.

Imagine saying that six months ago.

Cook's vastly improved the squad. In terms of both talent and temperament. Okay, it was teeth grindingly frustrating not to win at Notts. But take another look at that; frustrating...not...to...win...at...a...promotion...rival.

And after murdering the bookies' red hot favourites in midweek.

Our next oppo's Barnet are in form and should be respected as much as our last two. However I'm looking forward to Friday full of confidence in CFC...

Completely off topic but ive got to say ive noticed since we came back after covid we seemed to have gained a huge number of younger lads coming to the games which has helped take our away atmospheres to a different level to anything I recall before covid. There is the odd idiot in there but 99% are good lads just wanting to enjoy the football and day.

Got stuck at the back of the stand yesterday between a 16 and 19 year old lad who were telling me they and their mates started coming after covid happened after watching the streams online and absolutely love it. Great to see and great to hear! The away games and some home games with the emergence of W7 etc as-well as the kop have been electric now for the last two seasons…long may it continue! UTFB

The game changed when Langstaff came on. I'm willing to bet he will be the first name on the team sheet from now on.

Fully agree, Chris, and as I have mentioned on another post when we play Barnet that will be the 4th game out of 5 against teams currently in the top 10. So, not the easiest of starts and we are averaging the required 2 points a game at this stage.

Quigley was my man of the match yesterday and our game plan seemed to include hitting him long. His hold up play was excellent as was his involvement in both our goals. He led their CBs a merry dance and unless he had run out of fuel I would not have brought him off. Clearly Tshimanga needs game time but he hardly caused them any problems and, without knowing any facts, wonder if he would have been better partnering Quigley rather than Asante. However, Asante had taken his goal extremely well too.

Defensively, we didn't look as strong as we did against Wrexham but, maybe, some of that was that Notts did vary their attacking approach whereas Wrexham were just relentless in repeating what has served them well but continually failing against us. Also, Banks & Oldaker didn't appear to give as much defensive protection and, generally, were not dictating play as much.

I'm happy with a point, I'd have taken one before the game and we got one. We now move on to what lies ahead and certainly if we avoid defeat against Notts at home and Wrexham away we will have given no ground to 2 of our main rivals at the top end of the table.

Agree with most of this but I think if there is genuine competition for places Clements for Horton should be considered for Barnet game.
