Yep, the combined pace stats for Quigley, Mandeville, Asante, Dobra probably aren't startling. I'm just wondering if Gyasi's goal, and his pace, might get him the starting shirt ahead of Asante. Probably not after all the prep over the last 3 matches.

In fairness he does have a distinct style of play which all his teams have played (even accy). He might not have invented it per say but it is his style of football.

Just watched the highlights and thought how well Gyasi took his goal. Tshimanga like, loose ball, good control, good balance, patience, crisp shot.

I agree Oldaker and Banks look brilliant together. Banks, we know what he is with his excellent long range passing ability, eye for a goal etc from last time round, but he has definitely matured as a player (as you’d expect being a good few years older now and a lot more EFL experience). He definitely has captain vibes about him and wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up our vice captain behind grimes.

But Oldaker is seriously impressing me. Good off both feet, always in position protecting the back 4, and rarely gives the ball away (if ever?). Let’s hope them two can strike up a Morsy/Ryan esque partnership in the heart of the midfield this year, having that consistency will be absolutely key. I lost count of how many central midfield combinations and partnerships we had last year from rotation/injuries, and in the end we paid the price.

Exciting times

Not sure I share your excitement. My first game at a smart new ground. Excellent playing surface and superb bar. (Trust take note).
Boston provided decent, physical opposition but had limited goal threat although Grimes and, particularly Williams, played well.
The midfield worried me with Asante looking unsure of his role and only sporadic creativity from Dobra and Mandeville although both worked hard to track back if they lost the ball or misplaced a pass. Liam was also instrumental in the move which forced the corner from which we scored the first.
Jury also out for me on the 2 sitting ponytails with Ollie's tendency to showboat still a potential weakness and Oldaker looked a bit one paced though he was a steadying influence and came more into the game in the second half.
Both full backs were good going forward and were rarely tested defensively.
The main worry is still Quigley who has improved massively but is still nowhere good enough to be the main striker of a promotion outfit.
Difficult to assess the subs in the time available but Cooper looked the best of the bunch.
Goes without saying we need Danny, Jack and Kabs to stand out from the crowd and have a real chance of the title.

Didn't go, but I share your nervousness about Quigley, and Asante and Mandeville, behind him. In an ideal world they would be second stringers and they are, imo, still on trial. I'm quite happy to accept though that I'm suffering personal jitters and nobody will be happier than me when their goals and assists start to stack up.

On the CM's, it's all about their defensive nouse imo. They are both fine on the creative/possession side.

All in all, I face a nervous week waiting to celebrate points on the board.
Get it on, bang the gong , get it on

Are you insinuating that Cook is unproffesional and arranges our fixtures around that of Liverpools?

It’s got absolutely nothing to do with that so was a daft insinuation.

You make some valid points and this hopefully keeps our expectation for Dorking grounded. We didn’t make many clear cut chances and Saturday will be Dorkings cup final. We aren’t patient enough in possession imo, We need more control to make our fitness levels tell towards the end of the game.

I disagree about Banks, he’s been a big improvement in the CM and he has that goal threat. Oldaker is tidy and does the simple pass which makes us very effective.
Closing down and winning the ball back has been a feature of all our friendlies.

Creating clear cut chances is a worry when the other team sit back and pack their defence, Quigley has worked hard over close season but we lack an arial option when the ball is crossed in play, it’s fine from dead ball free kicks.

It will be interesting to see how the top teams cope with us and now Manderville is more or less playing with licence to roam he has a big influence now defences have more attacking options to cover.

Everything still unknown but looking good, I just hope we get the win at Dorking and then we do the business in the following 3 games to give us a good start.
God I hate this league.

Give over Tim they are set up to maximise income, something very important at their level of support. The place is a lovely venue to be used more than twice a fortnight for football only. All the pitches adjacent were fully occupied with paying customers etc,

It sounds as though we should go back to Saltergate and ignore all the income streams and comfort a new stadium affords.
God I hate this league.
