Asante does not need to advertise himself. I have been told he had a number of clubs after him in the top half of the NL. He wanted to remain and prove that he needed a pre-season which he missed last season.

It was only 6 months ago Southend initially offered 100k for him. It was turned down.

From the friendlies I have seen it appears that Asante is one of the three behind Quigley.

How is York, Alex? Didnt manage to persuade them to sign AA as well?

Only while Clarke, Rowe, Cooper, and maybe Gyasi get up to speed, then it's a back seat for him..

Well, Clarke has done nothing much yet apart from look promising in the odd few matches he's been fit enough to play. At his age, I think this could be a big season for him. If he comes back into the fold and unleashes the promise and talent he seems to have he should move upwards. If he comes back into the fold and doesn't live up to expectations it will be a downhill slide. If he fails to regain full fitness - what then?

Danny Rowe has to either come back fully fit showing he is capable of playing 90 minutes with regularity or make a big decision about his future with his health in mind.

George Cooper brings the promise of being a very good player at this level but, at this stage, that is only promise. To win a regular starting spot he has to get fully fit. We've only managed to sign him because we are prepared to show patience in him finding a level of fitness he hasn't been capable of for the last couple of years.

Gyasi is a young'un who has never played for a Club at even our level in the NL. He's one for the future with a lot to learn. How quickly he starts challenging for a starting berth depends on how quickly he learns what is required.

So, at this stage, I can see that Asante should be part of our plans. Certainly, for the first half of the season.

When you put it that way it is quite easy to see why Cook might want Asante to stay around

I wasn't suggesting he wanted to advertise himself, more that (assuming) as PC placed him on the TL then he wanted him out (maybe to free up decent wages) so he was playing him in an effort to move him.

I hope I'm wrong and I hope he proves himself a valued member of the squad this season, I just don't think PC sees him in his plans longer term.

I'm telling it as it is and the way I see it.

A season is a long time. It's a marathon not a sprint. But, those first off the starting blocks stand the best chance of cementing a starting slot as long as they don't fall off the pace part way through.

If we have a bit of luck this season we might be able to rotate the squad and have a relative fresh group for the run in.

With actual quality into the box this year I personally think Quigley is gonna be worth his weight in gold. Last year the deliveries to him were absolute bunkum

Agreed. To me he looked completely burnt out after a few games. There was a period when he came back and was up top with Kabby where we looked devastating (think Stockport away). Kabby then got snapped and the whole weight fell onto Asante - he wasn’t fit enough to pick up that mantle IMO.

I’m willing to give him a chance because in my eyes he is a quality player at this level when fit. I have a feeling we won’t see Danny Rowe again - he’s not been mentioned at all this pre season. I’m hopeful Kabby comes back the same player but we must be careful with him so we don’t burn him out. I fancy Asante to start up top against Dorking with Quigley on the bench.

Cook mentioned Danny Rowe in the interview he did before the start of preseason. He said that Kabby and Clarke were back training and that Danny had needed an operation and as such it would be the start of the season before he's back. Assumed he meant DR would be back to start training again in August, but would obviously need time to gain fitness.

Looks like Osadabeh has had his ankle / shin broken 6 minutes into their first game.
Guess I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue!

Shocking for both the player and team and right at the start of a campaign. No consolation but at least the perpetrator was cautioned unlike the Wealdstone player…
