Maguire will never, ever be a midfielder.

he may well struggle to find a place in cook's team, never convinced me as a full back when he's played there and i'm not convinced he is suited to being one of 2 centre backs in a back 4, he looked comfortable as the lcb in a 3 at the back but cook won't be playing that, therein lies a problem for him. is he ooc?

I think it's just a case of "he's one of our own syndrome". Most seem to got over it re Rowley now.

Another year I think. His role should be a backup centre back/emergency left back.

He's not that good as a defender, I'd release him, no room for sentiment this season, get rid of the vast majority and bring in some quality
all we are saying, is give us ...a goal, or 2+

It I was Cook I would be seeing if he could convert a few players to different roles.
King to RW rather than RWB (Have Carline there and then King to cover if he's ill or injured)
Miller to LW rather than LWB (keep Whittle and then as above Miller can cover if Whitts injured/ill)
Maguire to CDM, he's played well there before and I think he would be better there than CB.

If we were going with what players we've already got this would be my team for Cook's preferred 4231

Loach
Carline Williams Croll Whittle
Khan Maguire
King Clarke Miller
Kabby

Subs: Grimes, Asante, Rowe, Manny, Mandeville

I'm not disagreeing with trying to play King, Miller or Maguire further forward. All three remain under contract and could be here next season. Also, they have been part of a defensive set up which has looked vulnerable most of the season.

Of your chosen 16, though, 6 have to get over long term injuries and there is no guarantees they will return to be the same players as they were before. Also 5 are out of contract so the question has to be can we improve on these players in the close season to make us a stronger outfit? I accept some of the 6 are in the 5 but Cook has a budget to work with and a team and squad to build to suit his own style. Failure will not look good on his CV and anything short of the play-offs again will not be good enough.

There ain’t going to be any room for sentiment, Cook will reduce the squad size; when you include all the players with current deals that doesn’t leave room for passengers who continually are out with strains, pulls etc. For me as good anyone is they cannot be retained.
God I hate this league.

I'm a bit reluctant to jump in before the highlights come up, but I think he was subbed because of his outright unacceptable performance. There was no tactical change. Whittle just went to LB.

Is anyone like me and genuinely concerned about next season. I genuinely thought that this might be our year this year until all the long term injuries, suspensions and management shenanigans put paid to all that. . My concern is now that it is a short turn round to the new season and will we have the players that can compete in this League and against the likes of Wrexham, Grimsby, Notts et al. Can we attract top quality to the Technique after our poor end to this season... Will anyone want to come and play for us. What was a good campaign this year could easily turn into a disastrous campaign the following year... football is like that. Have we missed the golden opportunity that only comes around so often in this league.

Was this yr a good campaign?
I'm not so sure it was, top 3 would be a good campaign, or storming into the playoffs after being bottom of the league, thats a good campaign, but limply holding onto a playoff spot after starting the season so well then going into the playoffs, with more hope and prayers than expectations, isn't a successful season for me.

We need to make sure we are not so reliant on one player again

Neither are Danny Rowe's apparently..could he be tempted to see out his career by returning to a club nearer his roots?

To be honest Wrexham will probably buy the league title. I’m expecting a few ridiculous signings and probably the non league transfer record to be broken again. With regard to ourselves top 3 has to be the priority, and a side capable of amassing 25 wins and at least 85/90 points. We’ve had a soft underbelly for the past 6 seasons now, and play at home with a nervousness that we never saw since Cook left. We need to be setting ourselves a target of going undefeated at home and winning at least three quarters of our home matches. The away record isn’t that bad and I’m confident we can maintain it. The thing that got Stockport over the line was there home record and winning rather than drawing. If we’d turned half our draws into wins we would have finished a close second.

I think much depends on how Kabongo returns? If he gets back up to speed with no mental affect ready for the start of the season his goals can cover poor patches and dips in form such as we were suffering over Xmas and into January. If he returns like Asante has then we'll struggle

I sincerely hope nobody else is like you i.e. terminally negative, and most are optimistic about a new season with Cookie getting in his own players to play his style of football. I'm expecting us to finish top or at least in top three.

King and Millar are not effective wing backs, Miller too light weight, King no speed (Only when he’s scored a worldview)
