miller has looked far better as one of the 3 in a 4231 than he did as a wingback in the rowe system, mandeville, lovely footballer but is just not dynamic enough, yesterday for the about the first time in 3 seasons he crossed a ball 1st time and we scored from it, usually he'd get onto that ball, turn backwards run the width of the pitch and then play a 5 yard pass back to someone, time to move him on.

OOC TBC;
Grimes, King, Kellermann, Whelan

OOC June 2022;
Carline, McCourt, Whittle, Rowley, Weston, Hollis, Payne, Mandeville, Kerr, Tyson, Denton, Croll, Loach(gk), Minter(gk),

OOC June 2023;

Maguire, Oyeleke, D Rowe (+1 yr option), Miller, Khan, Clarke

OOC June 2024;
Asante, Tshimanga, Gunning, Williams, Quigley

I'd be brutal but that's just me.

BOLD - get rid
Italics - get rid if they can't get themselves fit

We can't be carrying passengers, sick notes, etc if we can help it. Too many of those this season, partly why the season derailed as it did even pre Rowe getting his wang out

when you reflect i think rowe's policy was to have sheer numbers to paper over some cracks, i think cook will be paying more attention to detail in his recruitment, he said yesterday "you can't be going into a play off game with 13 injured players". i don't recall cook using much more than about 19 or 20 players across his 2 full seasons when in charge 1st time.

OOC June 2022;
Carline - Release
McCourt - Release
Whittle - Keep
Rowley - Release
Weston - Release
Hollis - Release
Payne - Release
Mandeville - Release
Kellerman - Release
Kerr - Release
Tyson - Release
Denton - Release
Croll - Release
Loach(gk) - Release
Minter(gk) - Release

OOC June 2023;
Maguire - Keep
Oyeleke - Transfer List
D Rowe (+1 yr option) - Keep
Miller - Keep
Khan - Transfer List
Clarke - Keep
Whelan - Transfer list
King - Keep
Grimes - Keep

OOC June 2024;
Asante - Transfer List
Tshimanga - Keep
Gunning - Transfer list
Williams - Keep
Quigley - Transfer list

Thats what I'd do. Some of the 'transfer listed' players will be harder to shift than others. I think we might see a couple paid up to go (Quigers / Gunning).

Its not just a case of retaining the best players. The big quesion is, will Cook retain good players who, through injury, only play half a season or so? It's a difficult one. I think the answer has to be no. I think we also have to identify why so many players fell to injury. Clarke for example, returned to training but fell at the first hurdle. Why? Was is just fate or was the recovery schedule badly handled. Without a shadow of doubt, injuries have done us this season. I firmly believe that without them, Rowe assembled the best in depth squad in the league and would have won it at a canter.

You are probably right, enough to fend off the Scroteport surge without the big injuries.

I'd keep Miller, he has pace and some quality and end product can be improved imo

Maybe a few squad players who accept they won't start many games can be a good thing, if on low wages? Players who are ok as back up and would be happy at that?

So, who have you heard that from about Cook regarding Quigley?

Two different people with the same story, take of it what you will just passing it forward.

I'd keep Miller as I think that there might be a player in there that could add to the squad. Roberts might be a good mentor.
After 3 years if Mandeville still can't do it regularly enough he never will do.

No surprise if Gunning is at Fylde next season, maybe a few of these: Kellerman, McCourt, Kerr, Hollis?

Carline has gotta stay. He was a star player before he was kneecapped.
I would release Grimes, whilst he will put his head where most wouldnt put their foot, his positional play is poor and with him being in his 30s he's not gonna learn now.
Life goes on. Whatever happens.

Hopefully he's not crocked. We need right sided defender but I think Cook will bring in a RB.

I wouldn't list Khan Whelan and Asante. As for Oyeleke Williams and Croll, maybe, not sure. Maguire is another I'm not sure about. Depends if Cook wants 1 or 2 new CBs plus Grimes.

I'd get rid of Miller, yea he's had 2 good playoff games but even then how many decent balls has he put in in those games, how many chances has he had and failed to score from in those 2 games, and let's face it over the course of the season, even being top of the league, how many goals and assists did he get, ...
Simple answer is he doesn't return a good enough end product, that a player with his pace and ability should, ..
Nah.. get rid.
all we are saying, is give us ...a goal, or 2+

It I was Cook I would be seeing if he could convert a few players to different roles.
King to RW rather than RWB (Have Carline there and then King to cover if he's ill or injured)
Miller to LW rather than LWB (keep Whittle and then as above Miller can cover if Whitts injured/ill)
Maguire to CDM, he's played well there before and I think he would be better there than CB.

If we were going with what players we've already got this would be my team for Cook's preferred 4231

Loach
Carline Williams Croll Whittle
Khan Maguire
King Clarke Miller
Kabby

Subs: Grimes, Asante, Rowe, Manny, Mandeville

Always Oyeleke before Maguire. It's a while since Maguire played there...it can seem better than it was after time.

I assume all players mentioned are fit.

If so, Maguire in CDM over Oyeleke?

And I struggle with a starting XI that doesn’t contain a fit Danny Rowe.

Yet, I believe the DT's Liam has written that Quigley is well thought of behind the scenes. Take of it what you will just passing it forward whilst naming the person with the story.

I doubt Cook would have said that about Quigley, especially while promotion was still possible
