If you listen to the interview on Legends of the Spire, he was saying that a promoted CFC to the Championship with the squad in its current state and an owner who had lost interest was a recipe for disaster. He said that the current side at the time needed a massive overhaul to compete in that league and Allen wasn’t prepared to fund it.

Promotion to the championship- with 0 investment to the squad would have been a relegation certainly but with the potential away gates if you gave the section in the east as well as the end behind the goal would have given a massive financial boost …not to mention the huge increase in TV revenues. We’d have probably doubled our incomes
A new hope.

I'm not totally enamoured with the possibility of PC returning and, less so, if it would be for just 4 months. I want a manager with ambition not a few months pay then do what he did in the Casa lift whatever he acheives in those months.

JR, backed by the Trust, has given us our Club back and, until Monday came, we could look on the achievements with pride. I admit, there was a feel good factor and similar pride in the football we played under PC, backed by DA (like it or not), but if JR has to be dispensed with I think the Trust need to try and appoint as squeaky clean character as possible and I'm not sure PC is that person after reading about some of his shenanigans around town.

I kinda take your point about an ambitious manager, Dave.

But it's about being pragmatic.

We don't need someone to overhaul the Club as we did eighteen months ago. All the pieces are in place. So we just need someone to pick up the baton (mixing metaphors), to perhaps tinker a little but not go back to any drawing board.

The proven Paul Cook did that after first arriving. Infact as our friend 'Bobby' says it'd be a real coup for a manager with his CV to drop to this level. It's a win-win - we get a successful and popular boss, he get's to maintain his profile. Meanwhile if he get's us up...

On a personal level I've gotta call out your double standards, though. I know you don't like being reminded but you repeatedly told us to "move on" or turn various kindsa blind eyes to Carson and Co's "shenanigans". To the point of pursuing a pretty lonely path in advocating the likes of Coe be accepted at a post takeover Town. But now you're uncomfortable about Cook coming back? You suddenly insist on a "squeeky clean" candidate?

The scouser's no angel, I'm not gonna pretend otherwise. Yet there was a certain culture at the Club back then that seemed to legitimise some sortsa behaviour. I'm hoping recent events prove that culture's been cancelled and anyone wearing the Spire badge will respond accordingly...
