Thanks for your quick response. Would the club have sanctioned this? maybe even sorted it for him? If not would it be etiquette or even a contractual requirement to inform the club and who would be paying for your mates time?

No contractural requirements at non league level.
My mate wouldn’t have charged him for it (I doubt)! he uses the gym a lot tbh.

A lot of players seek external training (it’s my bread and butter tbh. Sometimes at clubs request but not always.
As long as it will not negate any other training it’s rarely an issue
