Didn’t go yesterday due to covid but I think we’ve struggled a little bit at home all season. Giving away those leads in the last minute probably didn’t help so we seem to be a bit unsure about the best way to play. When we’ve played teams that want to just sit behind the ball we’ve run out of ideas quite quickly. Think we’re definitely missing Danny Rowe who can maybe just do something a bit different.

Maybe yesterday Rowe just thought he’d do something a little different. We’ve seen how these 10 men behind the ball teams play so maybe he thought he’d try something unexpected and blitz them. Ok it didn’t work so it needs a rethink. Just wonder if this is a time when he is maybe missing the old head of George Foster who could just get him to calm it down, stick to what works and don’t panic.

Whatever it’s a good learning curve for a man who’s not really made too many missteps up to yet. I think at the start of the season if we’d have said we’d be top (just) at this stage, we’d have taken it. Yes the dip in form is a little worrying as is the form of some of our rivals but we showed in the 2nd half at Barnet we can still turn it on. We always knew it was gonna be tough.
If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything.

Sensible post, Phil.

We are top of the league with a team which is still evolving, having endured quite an injury crisis, still nursing certain key players following long lay-offs, and having to learn how to handle our new league status after a few seasons of being a rather easy scalp. The players and team can improve and be improved whilst sometimes games like yesterday's are a stark reminder of that.

Stay confident, it's always better when it comes down to the last match of the season. :)

I can't believe some of the ridiculous responses to a drawn game that leaves us at the TOP of the table. A casual onlooker would assume we hadn't won a game for months, and were in the relegation zone. I would imagine the possession stats today were about 80/20 in our favour, as we dominated the game from start to finish. There were two reasons why we failed to win - their incredible workrate and resilience, and our inability to cut through them. Aldershot set their stall out very clearly; they were here for only one thing - to stop us scoring, and go away with a point. They have to be given a huge amount of credit for their incredible spirit and determination to stop us. Almost every time a CFC player gained possession within 40 yards of their goal, he was surrounded by 3, 4, or even 5 Aldershot players. They kept this up right to the end of the game, and if that performance had come from our players against a much stronger opponent, we would all rightly be proud of them. So credit to them, they followed their plan to the letter, and achieved what they set out to do - and I don't see why we shouldn't recognise that achievement. But what about us? To start with, I think the post-match experts who criticise JR's selection are wrong - the attacking set-up was fine, and I thought Quigley did very well, especially in the presence of a referee who wanted to be M-O-M, and a west stand side linesman who appeared to have been told not to interfere. In the face of an 11-man defence, it was always going to be extremely difficult to create clear chances, and so it proved as Aldershot players popped up everywhere and threw themselves into challenges and blocks all over their half of the pitch. Of course our players can be criticised for not converting the chances that did fall to them, but I only spotted about 3 or 4 actual chances that came our way. With all 11 of their players dropping back and working like Trojans, it would have taken a very high quality move to open them up. The fact that we couldn't conjure that perfect move up on the day was very frustrating, but doesn’t mean that we have suddenly turned into a poor team with a poor manager. For heaven's sake get it into your heads - WE ARE TOP OF THE LEAGUE!!!

If you think taking 1 point from 6 against bottom half opposition is hypersterical wait till we’ve played Stockport boreham wood if things don’t go our way.

It will frame those two games
A new hope.

Not over-reaction so much as puzzlement about what exactly is going on. As far as the football went, Aldershot did exactly what we did last season and gave nobody any time on the ball, and time on the ball is what players need at this level to pick out the right pass. We can expect a lot more of that now.
So, one way round it is to put in a target man who can get to, and hold up, balls booted quickly upfront to get out of trouble. In that I think JR saw it coming and made the right choice, though perhaps he should have done it as a Plan B. The worrying thing is that he signed Quigley at just the point that Tom Denton was coming back after 6 months out, and he tried to use him alongside two other strikers, leaving a very understaffed midfield. You can have as many brilliant strikers as you like, but if nobody is in the engine room providing the service they won't live up to their potential.
So like I said, not over-reacting, just puzzled. And a bit worried that JR, who has scarcely put a foot wrong for 15 months, may be feeling the pressure of a league that gets tighter by the week, and with very limited chances of escape. Interesting times ahead, but if he can keep his head he's got all the qualifications needed.
