Rowe confirmed in todays Press Conference that Croll has signed an extension prior to the Chelsea game.

Quote

Chesterfield FC @ChesterfieldFC · 11m
Luke Croll signs for the Spireites until the end of the season!
Rowe: "He's here until the end of the season now, he signed an extension just before the Chelsea game. He's a top player and we're fortunate to be able to keep him."

Great news IMO.

To say he’d been without a club before joining us, he hit the ground running and he could be an important player moving forward.

good move, now there has been a lot of debate about gunning v grimes, so to open that debate up, last season we established a back 3 of kerr, gunning and maguire. does williams, grimes and croll now improve on that? personally i like gunning and can see his role beyond that of just pure player but is there a question that maybe his organisation and leadership at the back was/is more crucial to the likes of maguire and kerr, maguire in particular who seems to need that bit of organising positionally. in truth i think rowe will continue to rotate the 6 of them just thought it would make an interesting point of debate.

Defo a good debate. Only my opinion, but I’d have Grimes, Croll, Williams, Maguire and whittle ahead of Gunning. I’ve not seen much leadership either from him but suspect he’s a character in the changing room. Rowe clearly likes him but he wouldn’t be anywhere near my starting 11.

Tend to agree. There was a time when I thought we would struggle without Gunning. However he's come back and seems to spend a lot of time shouting at players when he's as much at fault. Maguire and Grimes are much better players in my opinion and Whittle has done nothing wrong at all. Still not convinced about Williams but it is early days

Williams strolls it as a CB at this level.

Don't think we've seen the best of Williams yet, mainly due to the injury to King, forcing him to play wing back and him being cup tied.

Personally I think he's a better CH than Kerr, who hasn't let us down.

JR has got some dilemma on his hands now players are returning, and that we've now just got the league to focus on.

Williams Grimes Croll

Vs

Kerr Gunning Maguire

Both back 3’s more than good enough for this level.

And JR has the flexibility to mix the 6 up.

Both back 3’s more than good enough for this level.

I'm not keen on the idea of rotating them just for the sake of it - fine to make changes if it's down to form or fitness, but otherwise I think he should establish his best three and stick with them.

Completely agree. No idea why JR seems to consider Gunning to be the first name on the teamsheet whenever he's fit. To be honest he never actually looks fit! He looks like he's struggling every game. I'm not sure why he takes loads of free kicks either. I, and many others, must be missing something. Not sure what though!

He also seems to blame others when he makes a mistake. All that said, I still have trust in Rowe though a few massive decisions to make….. the back 3 and do we play the 2 up front….

Big next 2 games to keep the momentum going.

Manager also saying that he’s awaiting the green light for Danny Rowe to start training. Great news seemingly.

Depends if the green light comes or not I guess.
Guess I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue!

He did say he’s still waiting for the green light for Danny Rowe to start training again but then he’s said that before. He also said we’ve lost Clarke and Rowe and need to replace them. Danny Rowe is an outstanding footballer at this level I really hope we see him play for us again.

I’m sure he made a similar comment back in November.

I would imagine he’s been waiting for the green light ever since the incident occurred, hopefully I’m wrong but I think this is just the only line he could take at the moment.
