Sure a lot of the people concerned won't like this but still

I always thought the reasons we sang at away games were

1) to encourage our team/players
2) to create a good atmosphere and have fun
3) To poke fun at the home team

It is becoming cringey at away games with a group of obviously drunk up people that think the reasons to sing should be

1) to make themselves the centre of attention ( often whilst not watching the game )
2) to sing songs designed to be as offensive and sexual as possible ( and often with nothing to do with football ) whilst ignoring the fact that there are kids nearby.

These peeople seem to give a LOT of thought to child abuse.

It is only a handful of people ( but as is usual the case with a drunk minority ve a sobre majority they make the most noise )

Sorry to come across as Victor Meldrew here as I love singing and getting behind the team and cheering them on but some of this is embarassing

oh and whilst we were holding their banner and shaking hands with their fans as we empathise with their plight, some moron at the back was singing " you're so **** it's unbelievable" and " going bust". Real quality that was.

had the wrong glasses on at first and thought your thread was "strong at away games" which would have been a great thread given our superb away form at the start of this season. i haven't been away since solihull boxing day under pembo so this is sad to read .

I'm intrigued at which point singing at away games becomes child abuse.
Guess I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue!

I'd rather focus on the positives and we've earned some real and heartfelt thanks from desperate Southend fans for the chants and banner holding yesterday.

Well done those who joined in.

Jesus who thought that was a good thing to sing?!

The whole shaking hands thing with the Southend fans was horribly cringeworthy as well - no more of that nonsense please

Don’t think there’s a lot wrong with standing in solidarity against bad ownership with fellow football supporters…wasn’t that long ago it was us invading the pitch after conceding a 4th goal at home!

I went to my first game in 1979. It was exactly the same. Its never been a place for sensitive ears.

It’s usually fine. I remember some young’uns singing stuff about the Pope which they clearly didn’t understand, and wondered which sinister characters had started it, but that was 20-odd years ago when I used to go to away games regularly.

Nowt wrong with solidarity with other fans. We all just want a club to watch on Saturdays.
These go to eleven.

What was most amusing about that exchange at Wrexham was the fact they retorted with "Jimmy Saville, he's one of your own"

Not sure Saville frequented Derbyshire that often. Mates in this neck of woods have told me stories how they often saw him in a place called the "flying pizza" in Roundhay, Leeds at the end of a Saturday night out, not sure I ever remember seeing him in Best Kebab on Holywell Street?
