If you read the rest of the sentence though after you cut him off above it reads as though he wasnt aware at how much it cost not that it was free....

Dear me, Leslie. I obviously knew it wasn't free, I was just surprised it cost as much as £135 per donation.

Having seen the robotics in one of the labs, wages, tests, storage, transportation, room hire etc I am surprised the costs are so small. However the costs are neutral, with the money just moving about within the NHS

Has any of our few blood donors been contacted about plasma donating if you have had the virus? Nearest donating site to me is Sheffield, I think it's the same place where you donate platelets

Pity that while they are carrying out all the tests on each donation they don't take the opportunity to do anti body tests at the same time. So anyone with them would be monitored every 3 months. They could find then how long they last for.

I had a call this evening asking me to begin the process of donating plasma and I was asked to go to Leeds on Wednesday. This means I can't give blood as you can't do both.

There seemed to be a sense of urgency and the guy who called me suggested preparations are being made for the second wave. An antibody vaccine is really being pushed and they need lots of plasma.

Due to the Covid plasma donation scheme now being stopped/suspended and not yet having been contacted about plasma donation for other illnesses I’ve got my first blood donor appointment at The Speedwell Rooms Staveley on Sunday morning.

That's a first, I've never seen or heard of that before. I wonder if he goes again in three months time. (It wasn't Doc Martin was it?)

Good for him though and I hope he's well.
