In short can you commit handball if the ball isn't in play?
Guess I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue!

He's a young lad, hasn't had much game time with us yet. Give him a chance. He didn't look that bad, with more games and experience under his belt he'll more than likely improve.

Totally agree also the change of set up suited the whole team - was that an example of invasion football.
God I hate this league.

When a player gets hacked down and they catch the ball because they know its a foul they don't get punished for deliberate handball do they? Was just wondering if this was the same offside. Everything after doesnt matter unless its violent or unsportsmanlike?

In your final sentence you say "everything after doesn't matter unless it's violent or unsportsmanlike".

So, isn't deliberately punching the ball into the net "unsportsmanlike"?

And, keep in mind the whistle hadn't gone and the ref would have awarded a goal if it hadn't have been for a linesman actually doing his job.

Very grey area, as we saw with the challenge earlier in the season when a goalkeeper (forget who) took out Van Dijk of Liverpool. Red card offence (GBH anywhere else) but unpunished because the whistle had gone for offside.
So technically the ball isn't in play, so no foul. But if that was applied rigidly it would allow a player who had been fouled to get up and flatten his opponent so long as the whistle had gone.
Referee's discretion I suppose. My point was that using a hand to put the ball in the net is a much worse offence that a handball anywhere else, on the grounds that it leads directly to a goal and is also unusually difficult for a ref to spot in a crowded area.
So needs to be dealt with greater severity than most other fouls.

Does being a proper manager mean winning defensively 1-0? Cos that ain't Rowe.

He’s most certainly not a “park the bus” manager that’s for sure.

But he’s a manager that understands if you don’t concede you get at least a point.

A manager that understands if you don’t conced goals then scoring 30 goals wins you the league.

But he’s also a manager that understands football is an entertainment industry. That sets him apart from the likes of Tony Pulis. And that’s what makes him a manager of worth, and one who will take this club forward. Maybe not on a million pound fuelled amazing roller coaster ride, but one that will be fun, one that will be sustained. And when he leaves a ride will leave CFC in better place than when he took over.
A new hope.

I agree about Clarke growing into the game. Didn't think he had a great first half but did much better in the second.

I was a little disappointed with Whelan, actually, he battled OK in midfield but anywhere near their penalty area I thought he looked a bit ponderous and when he did shoot it was woeful. Hopefully, he was just a little ring rusty having had such a long lay off.

Mandeville had another one of those games when he tried hard to make an impression after being introduced but failed to add any impetus.

However, I'm with Dave Waller regarding our corners. If there is anything to really be improved on it is our corner taking. They are really poor and not one of our many last night created any form of danger.

Really, really, pleased with the result and the position we find ourselves in at this stage of the season. We could pass a couple of teams in play-off positions by winning our games in hand and when JP left we were relegation fodder. And, more importantly, after such a dominating display there is more to come as little tweaks are made to make us more dangerous in the final third and with dead-ball situations.

Whelans end product wasn't the best but his energy was second to none and he definitely had a positive impact on our ability to press the opposition - especially in the first half.

Clarke would benefit from a goal I feel - he looked very tidy, good on the ball and looked to link up with Asante quite a lot in the second half - I'd start him again on Saturday.

Smith was excellent - we've been missing a CM like that.

A player can be cautioned or sent off at anytime, the ball doesn't need to be in play. Players often get carded in the tunnel.

Absolutely,,,there are some amazing eyebrow raising stats in there.....these are the type of stat that JR and his team will be delighted with as he mentions in his post match interview.

I keep seeing xG mentioned all over and have no idea what it even relates to!! Seems a stat for the sake of having a stat!

This is a few years old but does well in explaining why it is completely pointless.

Always the chance that highlights by us could be slightly biased but based on those it was utterly dominant in our favour. Good to see the high pressing winning the ball back further up the pitch. Lots of chances created that on another day could have seen us score a hatful. Really well taken goal by Asante.

Even getting away from the debate about it being deliberate handball or not, booking etc i'm struggling to see how the ref can think its gone in off anything other than the blokes hand\arm. The ball is nowhere near anything else and in a way the fact it was offside has bailed the officials out of an almighty balls up.

Just as a matter of interest on average how many passes per match do a Peps Man City do as they are normally regarded as the past masters of passing football?

....Asante has got to be attracting attention. Strong, fit, persistent, team player, no temperament problems, sees a pass, scores goals. What a find!

Not sure what contact we signed him up on but you wonder if an extension like we have with Rowe could be on the cards. Whilst you cant always stop them moving it would be good to ensure we get the maximum we can if he was to go. Lets be honest if Fondop can end up at Charlton then from what we have seen with Asante he should be interesting teams.
