Clean sheets and 1-0 wins galore, Rowe is shaping up to be our first proper manager since Johnny Duncan!

Don't talk wet.....Paul Cook ring any bells?

Defensively they were a tough side. I thought it had nil nil written all over it, we sorely needed a partner up front for Asante, and when he got one we hit the net. Surprised JR waited that long to bring Tyson on. Great win against a solid side.

That’s exactly why Tyson was brought on then, Rowe got it exactly right and pleased for him for being brave in his selection.

Prefer our CB pairing on that showing, tight with the offsides, limited them to barely any chance on goal and only in the last 15 minutes did they get anywhere near our goal mainly down to the sub winger who magnetic centre had him falling all over the place.
God I hate this league.

Busy last neet but this thread makes terrific reading.

Best possible response from Rowe - but first 'proper' manager since Duncan?

Good grief, for all their faults Sheridan and Cook - infact we might even include Law in this - blitzed their leagues in style. Bizarre to think there was someone, somewhere grinding their teeth in disapproval and yearning for dour football...
Never underestimate the stupidity of people

Clarke isnt a patch on CROPPER but Jak needed a rest.

He's a young lad, hasn't had much game time with us yet. Give him a chance. He didn't look that bad, with more games and experience under his belt he'll more than likely improve.

Does being a proper manager mean winning defensively 1-0? Cos that ain’t Rowe.

Indeed - we should’ve won last nights game 3/4-0.

Them and Aldershot have been very lucky to not get done in Barnet style

I’d argue the 2 best home performances under Rowe were last night and the 0-0. Eastleigh defended very well and our final ball wasn’t always delivered / shot taken as quickly as you’d like but if we start to get that right someone’s going to be on the end of another drubbing

They defended cleverly and bravely. Respect to them for that - it almost paid off.

Yeah they made a host of last ditch blocks stopping us from running away with it. A draw would’ve been daylight robbery for them really.

Really pleased to see us bounce back so quickly after our leggy performance at Stockport on Saturday. Squad rotation took me and probably most of us by surprise but it certainly paid off.

How crazy is it that Hollis will find it hard to get back into the CB position after Gunnings performance last night, considering how excellent Hollis has been.

FWIW I thought Clarke grew into the game and got into some clever positions in the second half - think we will be a player some day.

I agree about Clarke growing into the game. Didn't think he had a great first half but did much better in the second.

I was a little disappointed with Whelan, actually, he battled OK in midfield but anywhere near their penalty area I thought he looked a bit ponderous and when he did shoot it was woeful. Hopefully, he was just a little ring rusty having had such a long lay off.

Mandeville had another one of those games when he tried hard to make an impression after being introduced but failed to add any impetus.

However, I'm with Dave Waller regarding our corners. If there is anything to really be improved on it is our corner taking. They are really poor and not one of our many last night created any form of danger.

Really, really, pleased with the result and the position we find ourselves in at this stage of the season. We could pass a couple of teams in play-off positions by winning our games in hand and when JP left we were relegation fodder. And, more importantly, after such a dominating display there is more to come as little tweaks are made to make us more dangerous in the final third and with dead-ball situations.

Brilliant display at a fast tempo, I can only recall one time where our centre backs plodded up to their penalty area to wait for a Carline long throw. Over the last month or so this appeared to be our main weapon but it was hardly used last night. If we can keep moving the ball like that we will take some stopping. I enjoyed watching Smith and I thought Whittle did well down the left, full of running and I would much prefer him over Taylor who in my opinion has flattered to deceive but its still early days.

Look forward to Saturday.

Delighted to bounce back. Team is looking great at the moment.

I'm hopeful we'll establish ourselves in the top 7 (Certainly top half) this year.

I'm sure JR will get the corners and shooting sharpened up.

Ref preferred to book Maguire for telling him that was a mandatory booking for their player handling the ball into the net ie cheating.

In any sensible system pushing the ball into the net with a hand should be an automatic red card. It's fiendishly difficult for a ref. to spot, as we saw last night, and needs stamping down on hard.
Did their bloke even get a yellow? Thank heavens for a linesman with the nerve to overrule a goal given by the ref.

Holland's arm and hand was above his head from what I recall so it was intentionally in an unnatural position and should have been visible to the referee. The cross was at the right height for him to punch it into the net as if the move had been practiced on the training ground. So, without doubt, in my opinion the handball was deliberate and tantamount to cheating and should be punishable by a red card. As he wasn't given a yellow is it possible the powers that be are in a position to give him a belated red card to show their absolute intention to cut out cheating in the game?

I was outraged the ref took no action against Holland but can't imagine what JR's post match interview would have been like had we lost 0-1.

If he was offside doesn't that happen before the handball thus negating it?

Totally agree also the change of set up suited the whole team - was that an example of invasion football.

If a defender went through with a dangerous tackle on a forward after the offside flag was raised should he not be punished?

Whether Holland was offside or not his intention was to punch the ball.

The reaction of the Eastleigh players after the linesman raised his flag said it all

They were dropping back into their defensive positions already knowing that a free kick would be awarded in our favour

When a player gets hacked down and they catch the ball because they know its a foul they don't get punished for deliberate handball do they? Was just wondering if this was the same offside. Everything after doesnt matter unless its violent or unsportsmanlike?
